Yep. He was one of the most influential guitarists on my playing style ever. More so than any other musician of that time. The first times I heard him was around 1969 or 70. I've listened to him ever since and still do. The only other is Johnny Winter. Rory was an amazing talent that's sorely missed by anyone who ever heard him.

As much as I hate Signature guitars, he was one player who truly deserved it.

One of the best, both as a person and a musician. It's a shame that not enough people know of him.

R.I.P. Rory

I first heard him in the seventies and was blown away by his feel and songwriting and voice I put him on a par as a rock blues innovator almost equal to Hendrix as a guitarist.

I heard him in the 80's (when I was a young teen,) and the only thing in your post I'll disagree with is that I much prefer him to Hendrix. Before the haters pile on, this is not to disparage Hendrix, but I personally feel that Rory was a much more versatile player, his body of recorded work displays that. he was just as fiery a player as Jimi, but he showed more sides to his playing.(Had hendirx lived longer he may have too, but he didn't and his recorded work is much less diverse.)

Hendrix was a much different player than Rory Gallagher. Hendrix had lots more effects and did more sonic exploration exploration than Rory, but Rory still in my opinion had much more energy on stage. Jimi was a bit more laid back and didn't run all over the stage. Rory didn't smash his Strat and kill it, he abused his Strat. Pick up Rory Gallagher - Live At Montreux DVD and you'll see what I mean. I think he may have surpassed Hendrix as a musician, but as was said, he lived a bit longer.

Both great players, just very different.

A quick sacrilegious aside: in a dyslexic moment I misread the title of this thread as R.I.P. Liam Gallagher. I was interested, but not very upset...

I also listen to Rory more often than Hendrix. he had so much energy in his music and i agree with the versatility comment. Born on the Wrong Side of Time (with Taste) has an almost prog-rock feel, and his acoustic stuff is so cool (especially Just the Smile)

Rory was a great player and person. When you reach this level as a performer it is kind of foolish to say this guy is better than that guy kind of nonsense/ It is more who you are in the mood to listen to. Sometimes I listen to someone so much I just have to put them away for awhile and put someone else on, and it is a continues cycle I think we all go through. But some artist are at a level that it just depends on the mood. I was listening to so much Beck since the Ronnie Scott show came out now I find I am on a Santana binge.
