Because they play a kit, instead of a real instrument :?:

Yep its a drum throneand it goes up to almost 27'" where as a stool is either 24" or 30" The thrones I use cost 100.00 most stools are 100.00 but the throne folds. the throne is more steady with a wider leg base, the throne has a softer seat for the butt  I like a good drum throne to sit the butt on if need be.

when playing drums, you need to sit on something to allow you to move your both foots and both hands freely and easily, without feeling that you sitting on something, and a drummers throne is designed to be it. when playing guitar sitting, you might just want to balance your guitar against your body.

You got that right. when you sit playing the guitar, you have to balance it on your thigh. I had to change the foot rest position on my Guitar throne because I couldn't put my foot on the footsrest, it was too high. So now after screwing the new foot rest in, I can't move the seat up or down. Thats ok, because it is a good height if anyone alse wants to sit on it and I can now put a foot on the foot rest.

Because drummers have emotional security issues and require validation.
