"Fender Contests Suck"

Normally I respond to statements such as this with a quip regarding how no one complains about somebody's sister doing the same thing but in this forum I'll simply say "no, they don't".

Fender doesn't have to give anything away.

But, the other thing you pulled from your arse, the 5%, is pretty right on.

Buy a lottery ticket. Your chances are probably just as good.

The guitar would of looked better with just the lil bird and hand logo and minus the woodstock wording.

I think the guitar is valued at under $500. It probably would cost a fortune to ship the guitar to another continent. It's still a shame.

Yeah it's too bad.
I sometimes get the feeling that some Americans do tend to feel that America is the world.
But maybe I just can't understand that, having lived in such a small country all my life, with it's history of merchandising and stuff...

Anyway, there wás a contest for everyone a few months ago. I entered that too, and if you search the internet you'll find more that's for Europeans/Canadians etc.

It seems the main (but obviously not the only) thing you don't understand is why the contests created by Fender's US distribution arm aren't open internationally.

You want a contest you can win, go bug the distributor in your part of the world.... I'm sure with your country's deep "history of merchandising" (?) they'll be happy to oblige.

Ah, well; he's not wrong about Holland's "history of merchandising and stuff".

The Netherlands were the seat of the "tulip fever" craze of the 1600s, when people started paying the equivilant of tens of thousands in modern money for single tulip bulbs that might produce rare and striking flowers. It was one of the earliest well recorded "economic bubbles" - leading to a crash and subsequent financial disaster. Often compared to the speculative flam talked during periods such as the tech bubble a decade ago...

There were a couple of nice books about it: Tulip Fever by Deborah Moggach and The Tulip by Anna Pavord.

And how the heck do I come to be talking about that on a guitar website...

Cheers - C

Contests are information gathering machines. You give something away, but you get all kinds of contact info. I'm sure Fender respects your privacy, but a lot of companies sell their mailing lists.

Wow man, calm down! Ofcourse I understand that Fender is an American Company, I was just saying what I said in general. I didn't aim at anyone on these forums, neither did I try to insult anyone!

Besides that, there wás an international 'sweepstake' by Fender, as I'm sure you know.
So it ís possible, I'm just saying that it would be nice if something like that would happen again!
And last, but not least: this is an international site (look at the .com part of the site...) so this is not 'my part of the world' but it isn't yours either. There only is a Fender US to win money from the patriotism and to emit some sort of quality-guarantee to the rest of the world. There is not even a BeNeLux distributor, let stand a Dutch distributor...

I didn't mean to insult you, or any American, I just try to point people to their possible shortcomings and try to make people realise stuff... If you know anything about the Dutch that is negative I'll look into it and take a critical look into the mirror with that in the back of my head.

You might consider working on you're historical knowledge though...

You might consider growing up and realizing that your inability to enter these contests has nothing to do with any "American attitude," which despite your childish backpedaling is EXACTLY what your earlier post stated.

Don't revise your comments and then tell me to calm down, junior.
