There are people around where I live here in the mountains of Virginia that cannot get more than one channel now with the new antennas and boxes...

The only reason the government mandated this change is so they can sell the analog bandwith/frequencies to commercial enterprises...The almighty dollar wins out over "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

here in germany are analog and digital cable TV parallel. yep, for digital you need a receiver box, most extra cost (rent or buying) + the charge for under public law TV stations. it was in the press that digital TV will be the future and all public law, commercial and pay TV stations armed for the future. Also the cable net companies offers beside analog and digital TV internet, telephone and radio.

so i think when all runs ok in the usa with digital tv europe will follow.

complete solutions with tv, internet, telephone and radio with a special receiver/sender will come as standard. all inclusive. you sit on your couch with your guitar, record your riffs and licks, watch tv and surfing...multiple tasking...

have fun.

cheers :D

Comcast for me so it don't matter. We have talked about getting FIOS which has been in our neighborhood for about 1 1/2 years now. It looks likea good deal for TV, Phones, Internet for 99.00 but thats only for the first year I have to ask around and see what it goes to after that. They hook it up free to your TV's and Two computers, one wireless router, Phones, and a battery backup installed in basement. Then everything is digital.
I have even heard rumors that they may discontinue DSL around here so that you have to go all digital.

We switched from comcast to fios a few weeks ago. Personally i like fios better, it seems like a lot more channels, hd channels and music channels.

It wouldn't surprise me if the date got pushed back again or as Ceri mentioned, they change to a sectional rollout rather than one cutoff date.
I guess we'll find out on Friday.

I agree with Taurus I can live without TV as long as I have my guitars and basses.

We have DirecTV and have been getting mail every day from Comcast and Fios. My mother in law won't hook up to any service. We got her a converter box a while back, but she can't get her favorite station, the local PBS out of NYC. Though the picture is so much better than her normal antenna. I have bought her about 4 different antennas which I can hook up so she will get everything. I just hope this doesn't affect my wireless systems like I have read.

Our cable provider went all digital over a year ago and gave out one free HD converter to each account.

Still, my neighbor asks :

Do I need a converter box?
(me) No, you have cable. :?

Just checking....the switch doesn't happen until midnight.

After that you can re-scan for the new channels too.

I just came by a local Radio Shack and there was a line out the door....probably last minute cable box buyers?

Gave up television in Feb. because Vermont channels were switched to digital then. Never watched it much anyway. I catch Lost on the internet and the news. Isn't worth it to have cable...not home enough and probably would just channel surf if I had it. That would be a waste of time and money I could be using to practice on a new guitar. 8) 8)

Everything else works great and you even have some extra channels like channel 7 weather (just the map, no Julie Durda).

Too bad! The only reason to watch Fox 7 was for the weather babes!!!
