Yesterday we had to put my 9 year old female maltese, Cynthia down due to heart failure and a long bout of heart trouble. We only had her for 3 1/2 years and we rescued her from a breader who was done with her and didn't want her. We took her in and she immediatly captured my heart and gave me so much love and affection that I am having a hard time dealing with the loss. I am a 53 YO retired construction worker and consider myself kind of rough around the edges but I must admit that this has brought me to my knees and I have been crying since 12:00pm yesterday and just can't stop. I miss her so much and can't see myself right now ever getting over this. My family has been great in trying to console me to no avail. I just can't stop and the sadness is overwhelming right now. Cyn was the first REAL dog that I have bonded with and we have 2 others but she was so special to me. She accepted me for the way that I am and always came and wanted to be with me and love me. I have a very sick wife, for over 8 years and spmehow I think that Cynthia has bridged the affection gap in my life. I will miss her forever and cherish the time that we spent together especially the las 2 years that I have been retired. Farewell my little angel.

Mate you have my deepest sympathies.
BTW MY dad and me both are/were hardened construction fellas. Typical mercenary type subcontractors. When our first basset hound died we were both digging his grave new years eve 13 years ago with snow falling around us sobbing our hearts out. Trust me its nothing out of the ordinary. Them dogs can make a crybaby out of the hardest of men. Dogs love unconditionally. They dont care how bad a person you are, your theres, in their pack or rather their in your pack. Thats all that matters to them. You cant help but succumb to it over time.
Deepest commiserations mate. Every time i lose one i swear never again, i cant deal with this again. I still get suckered in sooner or later though.
It gets easier as time goes by. You had a good companion, they'd want you to be happy.

My sympathies. But I guess that's really just part of life. We're sentenced to death from the very second we're born. I'm very sure a companion such as yours played a very important part in your life. But it's better to have had such a companion in your life than to have never run accross her at all.

You should be proud to have had such a friend.

Sorry, man. If that were my pup, I'd be gutted.

My heartfelt sympathies. Your post brought tears to my eyes. I (currently) have two Border Collies and two Australian Shepherds, all rescues. They grab a special place of your soul. Celebrate the time you had together.

Terribly sorry my friend. I just lost my dog a little over four weeks ago, he was the first dog I was really close to and I was terribly upset. Time heals all wounds though man. Hang in there.

My sympathies and condolences to you and your family. It is heartbreaking because they are such a large part of our families. Take the time to remember and grieve. They all give so much without taking.

These past few weeks, my 11 yr old has been spitting up bile and food on a daily basis. I took her to the vet the other day, where thay did x-rays and bloodwork. evrything came back normal except for crystalization in her urine, which could be an indicator of liver problems. Next step later this week is an ultrasound. We should know after that whether there is cancer or not. Meanwhile, she gets anti vomit meds and pepcid 3 times a day.

Thank you all. Reading your thoughts has made me realize that I am not going nuts. I think I am having a better day today but I still have had a couple breakdowns. I just miss her and it hurts bad right now but I will be ok. I kept busy and have band practice tonight so I think that will help. I just never knew that I would feel like this and have been totally blindsided. Once again I really appreciate your replies and it has helped alot. God Bless you all!
