Hey Rhumba: would sure like to see a pic of that Burns Marvin. Sounds cool. And I've never heard of the Burns tone pedal - what does that sound like, I wonder?

Regarding the Hank look: it's probably tempting fate to even mention it, but a long running GAS attack I've been suffering from may be coming to a happy conclusion in a couple of weeks. Watch this space...!

Cheers - C

Hi Ceri, how's things,
Yes I will certainly post pics but it will be tomorrow now ( I'm watching the darts on tv ) I'll put them in this thread.
The Burns tone pedal was developed, I think fairly recentlly by Burns ( yeh ) To simulate the De-Armond tone pedal used by Hank and a few other guitarists in the sixties. It as an up-down movement, giving you a sweep from bass to treble, providing a nice tone swell, similar to the volume pedal. One gives volume, the other gives tone sweeps.
Yes, I know you can do this with the controls on the guitar but if you are playing Hank type tunes, you are almost constantly holding the wham bar. ( Hank was the whammy meister ) you are restricted to fiddling with knobs unless you play with fingers ala Jeff Beck and then you have fingers to spare, as it were.
It also does appear to enhance the tone for a good Shadows sound. If you can remember the Shad's tune 'Memory' Well you can get those dreamy expressions, especially when linked to a decent reverb unit.
The Burns Marvin is a work of art, especially the tremelo unit ( more when I post the pics ) and the tuners have a stronger poundage to hold the strings in tune and they work very well. Remember Hank constantly used his wham bar and it was designed for him, by himself, Bruce Welch and Jim Burns ( is it Jim? I can't remember ) So it had to work ok.
My guitar tech called round to my house last week and he was blown away by it, he couldn't put it down either, I had to wrestle it off him in the end.
If you are interested, Burns have a new model out, called the Apache. Looks very tasty, similar to the Marvin but costs about a grand.
I'm very interested to here of your latest gas attack. Tell us more.
Cheers for now.
BTW Phil Taylor has just won the darts. :D

I love some of the retro-inspired models produced by Eastwood Guitars. I'd love to add these two models to my harem:

The only makers that comes to mind is Gretsch. I have always felt that the DNA of Fender is somehow always been linked to Gretsch. The other would have to be Rickenbacker. They are so sweet and look great!

You know, I bought a Gibson ES 339 and its a great guitar. Why do I keep feeling like I want to sell it? As I play my telecasters, I keep wondering why did I buy this guitar. Don't get me wrong, it has some great tone. It just doesn't feel like one of my teles or even my Clapton strat I sold to help pay for the 339. My Clapton could play everything my 339 can if not better. Maybe I am just feeling guilty that the 339 isn't a Fender. I was looking at building a two F hole 72 thinline tele as my archtop before I played the 339, which is a good guitar. I just have to get over feeling like a traitor.

Gretsch and Vox have always been my top two. I also enjoy BBE Sound and Jim Dunlop.

Ok Ceri, here are a few snaps. Photography is not my strong point, I think everybody knows by now. Come to think of it, I don't think I have a strong point.

I haven't played many electrics other than Fender besides an Ibanez artcore i used to own. It was a pretty good guitar. The older 50s and 60s Silvertone has a good feel to them and sound pretty good for what they are. Yamaha has some nice electrics and so does Shecter Guitar.

Guitars I've used or owned over the years.....Supro, Burns, Vintage Vox, Gretsch, Guild, Ibanez, Dano, Tiesco and a Roland 707 Guitar Synth.

If you limit yourself to Fender and Gibson, your missing the point sonically. There are lots of guitars out there.

The guitars I can't stand are ESP, Jackson, BC Rich. I'd take a Tiesco Del Rey over a Jackson any day as far as playability goes.

Oh, tres cool! Are you working your Hank steps? Thank you for posting that!

And the Shad-O-Tone sounds interesting too. I have an idea where I might be able to demo one...

Anyway: so am I understanding right - the tuners on the Marvin are heavier than regular ones? Is it just that they're full size tuners rather than minis, or something else? Interesting...

Cheers, Rhumba - C
