I was checking this out at MF and was wondering if any of you already have them and what you think about them? I've been reading reviews and watching youtube videos and I seem to like them so far, but I don't wanna fork out $300 and end up not liking them. I play alot of blues and heavy rock, but I've never had EMGs before so I was just wondering what you (If you have them) think about them. 8)

I don’t have any single coil style EMG’s in my Strats but have been considering them for some time.. I have the 81’s & 85’s in my Les Pauls and love them……..

I would hit up PaisleyStrat .. He uses them in some of his Strats and has spoken highly of them in a couple of threads if I recall correctly..

Also shop around some. I do order a lot from musician’s friend myself, But I do recall seeing that pre wired set somewhere else on the net for $208.99. when ii was thinking about buying a set, that’s almost a hundred bucks cheaper and could be worth the search.

Search the Forum Threads under Gilmour. I've written several extensive opinions on the EMG DG-20 which I once had loaded into a '97 American Standard. It's a great powerplant but remember what DG runs that signal through. His floorboard is what creates the Tone From Heaven.

I own a Gilmour NOS, but my Clapton, with it's 25db midboost dimed, through a clean amp will give you more of what you are looking for than either the DG-20, or my Gilmour.

Find the recent Clapton Midboost Thread on the Stratocaster Forum and several others in Search, on installing a Fender Clapton midboost circuit in your present guitar.

Our colleague nikininjga is really the go to person on this one, particularly with respect to the selection of pickups most compatible with that circuit.

Doc

Thank you Doc.

You've been more than helpful. I think I will get it after all. I found it on eBay for $208 :P

If you are deciding on the DG-20 here are some thoughts. I placed the battery in the center of the trem rout in place of the center spring. It's a lot easier than in the control rout as the maker suggests.

You may have to reconfigure your trem springs accordingly. My guitar's trem was blocked as the Clapton's. Niki placed a battery in that position with an operational trem after removing the center spring, so apparently, the function of the trem was not affected.

Keep us posted.

Doc.

Woah! I just traded my Fender MIM FR HSS for a Sunburst Strat with the Gilmour EMGS. AND the guy who traded with me already had a battery compartment made into it.

I can't stop playing this thing. It's freakin' sweet!!!

The '97 MIA Natural finish which I purchased new had the old 'swimming pool' rout. Hence, a routing for the battery, as done in the Clapton, could not be accomplished because there was insufficient wood in the lower wall of the trem rout to accommodate it. The next best thought was to place the battery is as suggested. If the OP wants to modifiy his guitar to accept a 9V battery as per the Clapton, it certainly can be done. I reverted the guitar to spec and traded up with both the intact guitar AND the DG-20.
