I couldn't sleep last night, so I was watching the Bio channel. They've been showing a lot of band bio's lately. They had one on Hendrix and Aerosmith... and it made me think about the one A&E ran about Zappa. I saw it once a long time ago and never saw it again.

I don't know about other places, but you never hear anything about him here in PA. If ever there was a person who needs a bio pic made about his life it's Frank. But, I guess it may be difficult because the Zappa family protects that now. (As they should...)

I just think he deserves more public acclaim than what he gets. It just ticks me off that an idiot like Eminem gets a magazine article that calls him a "genius", and Frank gets ignored most of the time. I was even surprised that he got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was dead by then, tho...

Frank seems to get respect around Boston.

There are a couple of tribute bands around too. IIRC, Berklee has several pics and performance vids available.

I'm listening to Frank Zappa as we speak. He was a genius. It's too bad barely anyone knows who he is anymore (at least where I go to school). Most are too busy listening to Nickleback to appreciate true musical talent. :( :x

saw one of his concerts back in the '70's. he came out on stage, started talking and than said something like let me get in tune and started tuning his guitar and went on into a bad a$# jam with the band. will never forget this show.

I feel that the more music people experience, the more they will appreciate other music. I was given the gift of Frank's music from my brother, and for that I thank him. If you ever get a chance to see Ike Willis, I highly recommend it. I've never seen Dweezil, but have heard good things as well.

agree, but don't try to copy there style. form your own and see what YOU can come up with. some people try to copy note for note. don't do this. when i played bass in bands i'd do my own thing which always ended up using a little of the original by accident. had to start somewhere.

I'm going to Pittburgh from Baltimore in July to see ZPZ. I am really stoked. It's the closest I'll come to seeing Frank. I have one really good friend who loves Frank's music like I do, but that's about it. I try to turn people on to his music, but I can only think of one person who actually came around. He asked me once to recommend some of Frank's music to him, so I think he had been curious about it for some time. He has in turn started to expose his middle school band students to it. Let's hope it sticks with the youngsters!

My brother also had to play The Black Page #1 while working on his doctorate in percussion. He said it was the hardest thing he ever had to play. While he's not a huge fan, he definitely has respect for what a great musician and artist he was.

I couldn't agree more, Zappa was an awesome guitar player and song writer. His Music wasn't for every body but the man had talent. Jazz-Rock at it's best.

I will never forget the kid his name was Chaz from Oysterbay Long Island.Ww were working this job together and he was this funny guy who was heavy into acid.He used to tell me he would put drops of it on his head band and be tripping.Well we used to talk music a lot and one day he brought me in 2 tapes he made of Zappa music for me as I had said I did not really know his music, and that is how I discovered the quirky, wierd genius that is Zappa.I think you either get it right away or if you dont, you will never get it,and what a great read Frank is if you ever come across some old interviews read them he is a very smart man with a lot to say about many issues.I dont know what ever happened to the kid Chaz but I never borrowed a head band from him thats for sure.lol KEEP ON ROCKIN
