They probably didn't want to get killed before thier mission was accomplished. Those planes unlike the Zero were easy prey for the US Flying Tigers.

Check out this site if you want to see some incredible WWII planes.

Why do they sterilize the needle before they administer a lethal injection

The state is required to execute you in the prescribed manner so I suppose this is to prevent infection. Absurd ... sure ... but I guess it would give an opening for a challenge along lines of:

- what if Joe's executiion fails for some reason, and
- he's granted an emergency stay while the failure is investigated,
- but he dies of an infection from a dirty needle before the court set new date arrives and he can be executed (again) per sentence.

It's a stretch but executions by other means have failed before and they can't necessarily try again on the spot. Legally, the question is the same as why they prevent you from committing suicide before hand. Again, the "why do they care?" answer is that the whole thing must be carried out when, where and how the sentence prescribes.

Wasnt there a rule in england when we had capital punishment (hanging) that if it failed 3 times it was an omen that the sentence should be nullified.
Imagine how wounded you'd be if the trapdoor seized twice in a row and then on the third time you felt it shift just before.........

Where I live if someone survives a first attempt at execution... we stop laughing long enough to reload!

Why do they put a floatation device under an airplane seat instead of a parachute.
