I'm not sure which live version it was (I don't have that Voodoo Child set), but I believe that you are correct ... that in some concert(s) Jimi did sing the words that people frequently misheard. I have heard it myself! He was just fooling around ... or maybe he pointed at someone in the crowd/offstage/onstage when he sang it just as a tease.

You are not alone!

Common Mondegreen

A common misheard lyric in the song is "'scuse me while I kiss this guy". The actual line is "'scuse me while I kiss the sky". In fact, it has even been said that Jimi Hendrix himself perpetrated this mondegreen by actually using it as a joke while singing Purple Haze live in concert.[10]

This has turned into a good old fashioned horse whippin'.......but I like it. Jim Morrison....."he loves his neighbor til.....his wife gets home", his being his own wife coming home which breaks up his party with the girl next door.....get it? He's nailin' the woman next door, from "The Soft Parade", which doesn't mean he was impotent, it's just the title of the album....

okay everyone on here making fun of JimiVanPage and calling him a dumbass, you are being extremely immature. he wasn't trying to upset anyone and it was an honest question. Of course Jimi was not bisexual, but the poster does not deserve this kind of abuse for posting. i can't believe this is going on in the Fender forums.

giving an honest answer, i say to JimiVanPage: no he was not bisexual, and the lyrics actually say "kiss the sky". maybe in the version you heard he did say "kiss this guy" but that does not make him bisexual, he was most likely joking around.

If you think thats what he says, then don't listen to Paranoid by Black Sabbath, because you will probably think Ozzy says,"I tell you to END YOUR LIFE..." instead of "ENJOY LIFE".

Seriously though, I think pretty much every artist from the 60s or 70s probably had some sort of questionable incident involving the same sex if you look hard enough. Mick Jagger, David Bowie, the Bee Gees...
