I don't know about one overall, but I've had several favorites.
My favorite Gibson was a Les Paul Classic that I absolutely loved. But it was $2k so there was no way in the world for me to get it.
My favorite guitar sound wise was the SRV signature Strat I tried. The Texas Specials sound pretty good in my Squier, but they sound 100 times better in the SRV Strat.
My favorite guitar as far as feel goes would probably be the 60s Road Worn I tried, it just felt right. I'd probably really like a Custom Shop Relic, but I have yet to play one.

The best i've played is a Gibson J-200ce acoustic. You gotta love that jumbo sound.

I'm good with my electrics, so I'll go acoustic on this one.

Gibson Elvis Dove- The smoothest acoustic I've ever played. Amazing tone.

Jerry Cantrell's Guild- Any of you see the Alice in Chains unplugged show? The tone on that guitar is the ultimate acoustic tone for me. Never played it though .

Didn't they stop making Les Pauls between 1961 (which was really an SG) and 1968?
:?:

I forget the exact time frame, but at one time Gibson did stop making Les Pauls with the body style we're all familiar with, and was making them with the body style that became known as the SG. Gibson hadn't even told Les Paul about their body style change before they did it. He saw a "new style" Les Paul in a music store window, and was not too pleased about the situation. This also explains what there are a number of Melody Makers and Les Paul Juniors from the same time frame that have the SG shaped body.

I don't think Gibson could've gotten away with the new Les Paul (SG) shape for too long, however. Of course (the real) Mister Les Paul was "a tad" pissed about it, but consumers were pissed about it, as well. Gibson had taken away one tone machine, and replaced it with something that, while a tone machine in its own right, was definitely not the Les Paul guitar they'd come to know and loved. And, since there were musicians that dug the tones of what became known as the SG, everybody came out happy.

Personally, I own a Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cut (entry level Special), and have tried out several SG Classics. If somebody asks if they should buy a Les Paul Special or SG Classic, I answer with a "question" about attitude and manners...out of each guitar. Although both guitars have the same P90s, the SG Classic has quite a bit more attitude and growl than the Les Paul Special. So I'll ask "do you want your P90s with plenty of bite and crunch, but still have some manners (Les Paul Special), or do you want your P90s to have more balls-to-the-walls growling attitude (SG Classic)?" If I ever get a chance, I'll add an SG Classic to my collection.

Matt

I would have to go reverse and say what guitars I hated to play.A Gretsch like Setzer plays I forget the model # and a Rickenbacker 12 string when I was like 19 I felt like there was not enough room to make a proper chord.

I'm down to three guitars, and two are my all-time favourites: my 83 Stat and my 08 ES 355. Both superb in their ways.

Number 3 is my Taylor acoustic. May be time to go over to Gibson? Not sure ... !

You said played, did not specify 'owned.

Acoustic. A James L. D'Aquisto carved top and back New Yorker Deluxe. Now it is understood, what a violinist feels when they play an Antonio Stradivari.

Kind of like the definition of a truly beautiful woman: She walks into a room, and you remember everything about her...

...for the rest of your life.

Electric. a Semie Mosley Mosrite Ventures Model. Wow.
