It was about 15 years ago, my wife and I went to Georgia to visit her Aunt. On the flight back, who should I see coming on the plane? Yes... Bo Diddley. He had a lot of people with him. I'm guessing it was his family and maybe his people. Anyway, I'm shy to begin with so when I saw him I just froze. That riff from Who Do You Love? ranks up there with the intro to Johnny B. Goode... Satisfaction... Smoke on the Water... Iron Man...

Well, you get the idea. I wish I would have had the nerve to speak with him. But, I suppose it would go like that scene in That Thing You Do where the drummer meets his hero in the bar and says "You are my biggest fan..."

And I almost forgot about that cigar box guitar he played! How great was that?

RIP! Bo was one of my early inspirations as I moved from fok/classical into rock. He never sold out, never changed and I bet he hasn't yet!

Ummmm. With all due respect - "Mr. Diddley" - just doesn't sound right.
But yeah, he was a great one!

I'm not positive, but I think I remember reading an interview with him where he described how much of a electronics tech-head he was. Found it very interesting that he did so much of that stuff himself. I'm having trouble tracking down where I read that, but if someone else has any information on that, please share it.

BO was a founding father of rock and the diddley beat resurfaced in so many variations you cant keep count.I always remember those early clips I used to see of him and his band when I was a kid and the thing that blew my mind was that he had a girl guitar player in his band playing an electric.I am wondering now if that was another original move as I cant remember seeing anyone else use a girl in a rock band anywhere near that frame in time.

He played at a bar i worked in in the 90's. Great show!!

How many people have had a guitar playing technique named after them?

Bo Diddly Beat

(Merle) Travis picking

I can't think of any others off the top of my head. A true giant that will be missed.

I also met him on a plane in first class coming from Gainesville, Florida. He lived in Alachua, a town outside of Gainesville on a 50 acre plot of land, where he would play music to the animals who never complained. It was the second time I had met him. One of the all time great guys too boot! Her was very accomodating both times with his time and enjoyed just chatting. I am sure we all miss him!

I've written elsewhere in this Forum about how I met him in Manny's on 48th Street NYC about 14 years ago. A most, congenial, and straightforward man.

Now the both he and the store will belong to the ages.
