James Burton (Elvis) holds The James Burton International Guitar Fest http://www.jamesburtonmusic.com/ each around his birthday. This year's fest is Aug 21 & 22.

Also at the event Mr Burton wants to break a world's record by having the most players playing one song http://tinyurl.com/mjgqj6. This event is free, and will be filmed for Youtube.

I'll be there, Mr Burton is a good friend of mine, here I am with Mr Burton, and my friend Travis Image.

watching 7000 guitar players playing 1 song together is much better than watching Tiago De La Vega playing Flight of the Bumble Bee in 320 bpm 8)
so I really really need to watch this on YouTube! :D

Yes, he is and really a nice man. I hadn't met him before the first James Burton International Guitar Fest, but I did write him before the event. I wrote him to ask that if he could spend a few minutes with me & my friend Travis.

You see, Travis gave me my first guitar almost 35yrs ago, and we've been friends for almost 40yrs. That kind act changed my life, forever. Travis is a big Elvis fan, and I knew if we met Mr Burton that it would just blow his mind, and it did!

But, I really didn't have to write the letter, Mr Burton was so nice to us, and filmed us as part of his personal video footage. Image.
I also got to jam with Mr. Burton, and from that he respected as a guitar player as well Image
If you can come to the event, it will be fun.

You're jokin' right? Lightnin' Hopkins passed in '82, but he played, and recorded in Shreveport quite a lot.

Also, the 'Break the Record' page has been updated, it's suggested that you register if you plan to sttend http://www.james-burton.net/worldrecord/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=registers

No joke at all  One our group, "fhopkins', has been beknighted by yours truly as "Lite'nin". 8) That's what we call him :!: He's a Louisiana guy as well.

Do you know of the Seattle 'Louie Louie' event similar to the one Burton is planning? I think it s an annual thing.

As an aside, looking closely at that photo of the two of you, I wondered what happened to that fresh faced kid who used to stand left and rear of Ricky Nelson 50 years ago. Then I went and looked in the mirror and asked myself the same question. :?

You are fortunate to have that friendship. I regret that time and location will prevent me from participating, but I wish you both the best.

Doc.
