Tony, some of us just can't record, believe me, I'm enjoying this thread and hope to see/hear lots more.

It doesn't take that much to record, if you have a computer. I know a few musicians that use GuitarPort http://www.guitarport.com/, along with the free audio editor Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.

The Edirol UA-1EX http://tinyurl.com/mn53o9, along with Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/ ($60), because Reaper has amp models & guitar FX.

I love playing to different musicians tracks, it's very creative exercise.

I'm glad that you posted, because even though the topic has over 800 views, no one was taking part and I was ready to quit to posting.

I can record on tape reels :)
I have a G-dec and Jammer Songmaker, so a basic audio interface like the Edirol you posted should really be all I need, if I'm doing it the easy way and avoid micing an amp?

Does the GDEC have a USB out? I thought that they did. Download audacity and you should be good to go.

Oh, you have a G-Dec, you could either use the headphone or Line-out from the G-Dec to your computer's soundcard Line-in.

First download and install the free Audacity sound editor, select 'New Project', 'Insert Media' the backing track will show as a stereo track. Select 'Soundcard-in' as the recording source, but make sure that record level doesn't go into the 'red zone'.

Of couse, you have to save the track files once you record, and convert the tracks as a MP3 file (Export as MP3). Really it's pretty easy, once you've done it a few times, you'll find that it simple.

.

You know you need a audio cable that has 1/4" stereo plug on end and a 1/8" stereo mini-plug on the other end like this one http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103843.

The 1/4" plug would plug into your G-Dec, and 1/8" plug into your computer's soundcard Line-in.

I have an adapter for that, but couldn't get it working
my pc is really busted these days, should have done a reinstall a long time ago
Not sure if theres something wrong with my soundcard, I'll tweak on, and if that doesn't help I'm just gonna reinstall windows for god knows which time

Actually I recorded two versions, one with a different rhythm guitar tone, I'll record another lead and upload it later after I finish Aaron's rock track.

Achase4u uploaded a rocking backing track http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7771935, it's in 'E', but watch that middle bridge.

My con is that it's too short, I'm used to working with longer stuff  .

Here's my take http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7782427.
