this isn't really a gear post. I always have a live concert DVD on while putting on new strings. We start back recording next week, and I knew I needed new strings on my '72 Strat, '88 & '98 AmStd Strats, my '66 Jazzmaster, and my Epi 335 Dot (don't tell Shane Nicholas I sometimes play it live).

I started out with Ronnie Earl's 'Hope Radio' DVD http://tinyurl.com/kjky7h. I've seen Ronnie live several times and I always learn something new either watching him live or on this DVD. Here I was re-stringing my ''98 AmStd Strat, I also play along with footage.

I had the very hard to find 'Messin' with the Blues' http://tinyurl.com/lpzput featuring Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Pinetop Perkins, Bill Wyman, drummer Dallas Taylor (of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young), and Terry Taylor on second guitar playing while I re-stringing my '88 AmStd Strat. Buddy plays a red Strat in this concert.

Next I put new strings on my Epi 335 dot, here it had to Freddie King live in Texas http://tinyurl.com/lbyd42, this a great live show. Of course, I played along with Freddie (as much I could).

Next it was my '66 Jazzmaster, I put on Los Straitjackets in Concert http://tinyurl.com/l4t2yr, wow, I had time playing this afternoon.

You make a chore sound like fun! That's a good idea, watching great guitarists while restringing.

For me it's not a chore, I also inspect the fret wear, and polish my guitars. It takes about 15mins to put strings on, and than I play with the video concerts. I had two chickens smokin' on the grill so I had to stay around the house. Image

I also put new strings on my '72 Strat, I keep it tuned to Eb, and had the 'Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble - Live at Montreux 1982 & 1985' http://tinyurl.com/mtmrmz in my Blu-ray player. I still miss SRV.
