every US online seller (musiciansfriend, sweetwater ecc...) says they cant ship internationally due to manufacturers restriction.
why would fender do that? that means we europeans (for example) dont actually have access to the whole fender offer and we have to struggle to get the guitar we actally like..

Probably some combination of tax and import regulations in the home country combined with US regulations about exporting technology. It can be very time consuming to figure out the import regulations, taxes to be paid (and by whom) and other international consequences necessary to ship to another country. Electronics also falls under our (the US) technology export controls, so more paperwork hoops there.

Fender may have some technology restrictions and they don't want to spend to have all their products certified for export. At the seller end, chances are Sweetwater, et al, don't want to hire the experts it would take to deal with the export paperwork and know the laws of the countries being exported to.

The likely reason is because Fender have "sole distributors" in each country/territory. Those distributors have exclusive rights to supply on their country, and Fender ensure that there is no other way to buy a new instrument in said territories by restricting exports from dealers.

Hi ilpit89: I'm sure I've seen online sellers in the US that ship internationally - though I don't remember who, off hand.

However, the thing to remember is that when the guitar arrives in your country you will pay a combination of EU and local country import and sales taxes on it, which adds to the price enormously and makes the whole deal unviable from your point of view.

European and American shop prices fluctuate against one another. Last summer it was actually cheaper to buy many Fender models (the more mainstream ones) in my country, the UK, than in America. At the moment with currency fluctuations that position is reversed. But the difference is not near enough to justify the taxes you'd pay if you imported direct from an American seller.

Unless what you want is something unusual, such as an FSR guitar, it can almost certainly be ordered through Fender Europe even if you can't find it in a local shop.

What are you trying to buy, and what country are you in?

Cheers - C

first of all thanks to all of you who answered.

i'm in italy, and no im not trying to buy anything rare, i would simply like to choose the combination of colors i like on my guitars instead of going around local shops hoping to find one.

Hi again ilpit89: yes, I can.

First, be aware of the "Rivenditori" button at:

http://www.fender.it/

A well known Europe-wide seller is Thomann, based in Germany:

http://www.thomann.de/

Choose your language from that homepage.

However, in my experience Thomann don't have the best prices. I consistently find guitars cheaper in my country, the UK, and some of our retailers are set up to sell throughout Europe. For example, check out:

http://www.andertons.co.uk/Pages/EuropeanShipping.asp

http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/

http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/

http://www.soundslive.co.uk/

And many others. I'd look at that last one first: use the currency box to select Euros.

Or tell us exactly what guitar you are looking for and I'd be happy to search for it for you and dig up some options.

Cheers - C

Uh-oh! That feels bad. I am also shifting to another country next month and I will miss the same day courier service that I was getting here. I might have to find a good one there. And if the shipping cost is going to rise like this then it will become very difficult for me to actually send and receive packages.
