"Guitarist Ronnie Montrose is claiming that legendary blues guitarist Gary Moore has his stolen 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard... " ... and won't talk to him about it!

http://www.guitar-collector.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=120

It could be an interesting court case.

Just to be clear... he's not saying Mr Moore actually stole it.

Hard to take his post seriously when he hallucinates that Ronnie Montrose wrote those Edgar Winter hits.

He wasn't even a member of the Edgar Winter Group when those tunes were recorded, and a BMI search confirms what I thought I knew: Dan Hartman wrote "Free Ride" and Edgar wrote "Frankenstein."

Of course, that doesn't have anything to do with the guitar. Just fixing bad information, as is my wont.

I never heard about Montrose's loss. I wish him good luck with recovering his stolen property. I wonder what kind of documentation he has? Old receipts, photos, and police reports, I imagine.

I believe Gary was paid a sizeable amount for Greenie's old guitar; probably not exactly what it was worth, however, but that's the way these guitar dealers operate, ain't it?

Gary didn't steal anything!

I knew Gary had a couple Les Pauls from that Golden Era.
It's not impossible that he could have bought a guitar that was once stolen from Ronnie Montrose. There are only so many late '50s Sunburst Les Pauls, a couple thousand at most.

Wasn't the selling price for Greeny's guitar somewhere around 2.5 million?

You think Gary Moore got about $2.5M from Maverick Music for the Greeny Sunburst? It's been a while, but I don't remember a number that HIGH!

Maybe that's what Maverick ended up selling it for.

I sort of remember a figure less than $1M.

Ronnie Montrose was part of the Edgar Winter Group. Here is a link to his biography on his own website:
