looking for some reviews on some summer reading.
i just finished warren zevons biography written by his wife. a very good view into a very gifted artist but a troubled soul. very well done told through the words of friend and family.
also read ron woods autobiography not as deep or as well written but lots of good stories of his early days with jeff beck rod stewart and the stones.
anyone have any thoughts or reviews on something new in the music world to read.

Jaco: The Extraordinary & Tragic Life Of Jaco Pastorius by Bill Milkowski.
Ignore the tempest-in-a-teapot that surrounds this book on the bass forums: Milkowski writes well, knew Jaco personally, researched the book exhaustively, and came up with one of the most compelling musician's bios I've ever read.

Saucerful of Secrets: The Pink Floyd Odyssey by Nicholas Schaffner.
I don't think you even need to be a Floyd fan to find this remarkable story entertianing.

Tunesmith by Jimmy Webb.
A life, an after-dinner set of anecdotes, some real insight into songwriting and the business by one of the guys who pushed the envelope.

The Beatles by Hunter Davies.
A definitive classic, newly updated, praised to skies.

Electric Don Quixote: The Definitive Story Of Frank Zappa by Neil Slaven. A bit dry, but solid, and, like Frank himself, all over the map. Well worth knowing the real man and not just the Freak Out public persona.

I suggest "Real Frank Zappa Book" by Frank Zappa. It's absolutely hilarious. And you know it's accurate because it's an autobiography.

"Sire?" Don't get all wounded and snippy, junior. Just trying to keep things on topic, in case the original poster was looking for an actual answer to his question.

Yeah, because God knows that things never get off topic on these threads. I wasn't trying to be snippy, I was using a veil to say that I can post what I want if it's not hurting anybody. Wouldn't you agree?
