The 60's, 70's and even some 80's bands (hair bands, Rush, Triumph) definately had the better talent pool than todays music scene. Don't get me wrong, there are some standouts that I find very good and refreshing, but overall talent goes to the early guys and gals.

vcartier got me to thinking about those "early days"

As a teenager, I remember the pure joy of being able to get WOWO out of Ft. Wayne Indiana and hearing songs that WMEX in Boston wasn't playing or wouldn't play. That got me started on a life exposure of music of all types. I have to admit there are songs and performances from about all genre of music that get me excited. I still think the Rolling Stones cover of Little Red Rooster is one of their best recordings - and that was a song from well before the 60's. A recording of the origianl Jazz scoring of Rhapsody in Blue is astonishing...you get the idea.

I suspect the question of what's "best" will be answered more by what hits you in that spot you have the need to fill, no matter when it was recorded or what style of music it is.

Yeah maybe its what we listened to as teenagers sets the standard. We had radio station WMMS here. The number of musical acts that came through here, or were promoted by that station, reads like a who's who in the R&R HOF. A lot of future greats were playing a lot of small venues.

Im not going to get all crazy on this, but if there were no 60's-70's rock then there would be no 80's metal, 90's 00's etc... in all genre's

however with out the blues/jazz players rock would not exist, i have learned to appreciate all generations of music styles and it's cool to see how the guitar evolved from one musician to the next.
