What brand of strings are you using?

Are you washing your hands before you play?

My little brother's guitar always has sticky strings, along with everything else he owns.

Wiping it down with a wet rag usually helps. If it doesn't, then it's probably time to change the strings. How old are they?

Wash hands before playing, wipe guitar down after playing. Works for me!
Sounds like time to change the strings and clean the fretboard.

Personally I would not use a damp cloth. I would use a product specifically made for cleaning strings.

You probably have D'Addarios. I use D'Addarios on all my guitars except one.

A damp rag always worked for me, but you have to dry the strings afterward. I also wipe down the back of the neck if it's bad too. You could use string cleaner, but that costs money and I'd only try it if the free solution doesn't work.

+1

I use D'Addarios also. I usually wipe the strings and neck down with rubbing alcohol when I start playing. Sometimes when Im done.

To get gunk out of the ridges in the bass strings on the guitar, I would sometimes pop them like you would on a bass and it'd knock some of the gunk loose. It works alright, it gets some of the stuff out, but then it kinda gunks up the guitar a little.

Hope that helps. :)

I wash my hands before I play, and if I'm sweating a lot, while playing with others........I might wash them in the middle of a session. Then when I"m done, I wash my hands, before cleaning the guitar, before putting it away. I keep an old torn T-shirt while playing and if I'm sweating too much.....I'll wipe down the strings from time to time. Never have had sticky strings.

Rule one before my son touches one of my guitars I yell wash your hands, and no2 wipe down guitar when your done.Just one heavy session and not wiping down your strings will kill them,I see so many players do this and its a sin.Especialy with the price of strings today.Thats why when you go in a music store all the strings are dead on the guitars and why yours will be to if you dont follow 2 simple rules.
