What other manufacturer or industry is getting away with a 25% price increase?

Hate me if you want, but the Am Deluxe Strat and Blues DeVille 410 I bought last year are worth about $800 more than what I paid for them. 25% ROI in +/- 9 months ain't bad!

The answer is none. FYI.....it'll take about 10 years for your gear to appreciate in value if at all.

Okay Brad. Maybe we need a "sticky" telling newbies that the subject of price increases has been officially beat to death. :D

A very bold statement for such a generalization. Does that include anniversary, fsr, and limited customshop models?

ban the increase threads please.
Not happy about the price increase and sick of being reminded about it. If people feel so strongly then shop from another manufacturer, petty winnings on a internet forum wont get prices lowered.

Heres a something for people considering starting a price increase thread.

Do you think FMIC increased prices at a crucial and some would say bad time simply on a whim. Do they not employ a team of financial advisers and spend more money for advice than most people earn in a year?
Do you really have the knowledge of the financial field to question such people?
If one of those advisers decided to do you a favour by responding would it leave you feeling embarrassed?

Consider those questions before posting a price increase thread please.

Aside from that welcome to the forum Maxwell Street

I seem to have struck a chord....ha-ha...get it....chord! I hadn't looked at new Fenders in a while and I was surprised to see the price jump. I couldn't think of any other industry that could pull off , (another pun!), that kind of price jump and get away with it. Given the recession, maybe it's time to re examine the price bump. As for appreciation, time will tell if ready made collectables will increase in value or stay flat, especially since they just keep cranking them out.....

And don't get me wrong, I love Fender gear but I thought 25% was pretty ballsy, 10-15% would have been reasonable, also, I don't whine.....nor would I be embarrassed if I was responded to....I do have a financial background. No bans on threads.......respond at your peril...ha!-ha!

I agree with Niki, and let this be the last post about the price hike.I did a lil research and as I have stated in past post a lot of smaller companies have caught up to the big boys (FENDER and GIBSON) in putting out quality guitars but also in getting top dollar.Outside of the custom shop the most expensive models are usualy artist series here are some prices of other company guitars on ZZsounds,ESP GEORGE LYNCH-$2,300/DEAN VINNIE MOORE-$2,500/JACKSON RANDY RHOADS $2,100/IBANEZ JEM-$2,500 and these are not even GIBSON or PRS so if you grab a BECK or CLAPTON artist series which are great pro guitars your still paying less, and maybe thats how they looked at it in the boardroom.

Maxwell dont you consider that the 25% avg price rise was employed with good cause and is financially a very viable action by a market leader. taken on advice given by people more knowledgable than ourselves.
Maybe the thought was along the lines of, 'sales are going to slump anyway. Some people are still going to buy though. So lets up the price to keep things how we want them'. Thats the nearest i can come to fathoming it in laymans terms. Seems like sound business practices to me, considering the high spend capabilities of certain parts of fenders customer base.

Sorry if you thought i said you were whining btw that wasnt my aim. That was my generalization about price increase threads.

The law of supply and demand is a tough one. If they would just lower the quality, maybe demand would drop and then lower prices would follow.

I still think 25% is way high, I can't think of anything that jumps 25% overnight, this is a forum and that's my opinion, I feel that they know they have thier customers (us) over a barrel and that's just the way it goes. I merely wanted to see what others thought. You can't justify 25% unless they were about to file Chapter whatever...... So far the posts seem to be defending FMIC.

I say if you cannot afford a new Fender with the increase you have a few options:

1. Buy used Fenders
2. Don't buy Fender products (Gibsons are more expensive)
3. Fender has the Squire line (not that there is anything wrong with Squire).

In these times you can either shell out the money for Fender to keep them going or buy elsewhere. The timing is aweful in light of the economy, but we will not be like this forever.
