ok just my opinion. why buy a reliced guitar? ive seen a few of them and they really dont look anythin like my grandfather's 62 strat. i just dont get it... its price is close to an american. why not buy a brand new one and have the battle scars tell their own story? any thoughts on these?

the marks dont mean anything unless you made them through the wear and tear of playing over years and years.

and they are like a glorified MIM (i think, correct me if im wrong)

You know, after 10 years on various guitar forums, I've never heard anybody bring this subject up before.

The RoadWorn guitars look cool, and they sound pretty decent, but other than that...

I just gotta say, they make nice eye candy. Wouldn't buy one though. Especially not for the price tag (and it being MiM). :?

Exactly, maybe kids my age (21) just wanna have a distressed guitar just too say they have been playing for a long time? i dont know... i still prefer new guitars that really have the story when they are nicked or scratched or i prefer to get the real vintage stuff. im very fortunate my grandfather owns a 62 vintage strat which he bought here in the philippines back in the 70's. he bought it for 1100 Phil pesos so its like $30 bucks! good call!

I like the way they feel (relics in general, not just the road worns). They have the finish worn off the back of the neck, and I love the feel of bare wood, not the glossy, gunky stuff. Also, when playing an outdoor gig in July, it feels a lot better to have arm wear on the guitar so when you sweat your arm doesn't stick. Someday I'll get a relic, not for show, but because they just feel right to me.

Went into a local music store a week or so ago to buy some strap locks… Sales lady was going to great lengths to put a road worn in my hands to try out.. Now, I know this Gal and have seen her band play several times and she is an amazing guitarist so I figure hey maybe there is something to these road worn deals… I gotta’ say they played great and sounded fatalistic and I was pleasantly surprised just how much I liked them; and might even buy one….BUT… I just can’t get over the relic finish. It’s just not to my licking I guess ……
I happen to like my guitars super shiny, new looking and, bright day glow colors…
Hey what can I say, I’m stuck in the 80’s… sure wish I could get a fender in blaze orange or Loc ness Florescent green….
Bill

Mike. A little off subject but I was stationed at Subic bay back in 78, saw some of the best live bands ever - a lot of talent in any music genre..

the Chicago Music Exchange on north Lincoln avenue in Chicago has hundreds of for real road worn guitars on their walls i've always thought some of them may be Frankensteins but you could spend a whole day just trying on the stratocasters.

There is one on the local list for sale at a price of 700.00 firm the seller says need the money guitar is one month old  Thats what I call taking a beating loosing that much money. I am going to keep a check on it just to see if it moves. Never know the dude said it includes tags and case candy and its a 50's one. Not that I have gone wanting to get one because I am not into this fake worn look stuff but hay I offered 550.00 I would take it for that so I will see if he gets the seven. Guitars are a plenty right now on these list , there are 3 seperate ads for MIM Standards on there for 250.00 each well one says 249.00  sign of the times I guess.

After playing a few relics i've decided i like em. Nothing aside from a played to death guitar feels like them. Not just the back of the neck but the fretboard sides, body contours also feel great. I find them a very enjoyable experience all round.

One thing people forget when they see them is that the guitars are modeled on old well used instruments, not bashed pieces of junk fit for the scrapheap. I've played old and i've played ruined, theres a big difference.
