I like political commentary and I'm fairly liberal, but the point of the magazine is that it's about music, so politics are naturally out of place in it

Not what it used to be. I stopped reading it a long time ago. I reminds me of the National Enquirer of pop music.

But the icing on the cake was there 100 greatest guitarist in rock history issue and if no one saw this list look it up on the web as it is the only time I have written in to a publication in my life that's how furious I was. Here are some of the highlights.

#98 ANGUS YOUNG #17 JACK WHITE
#85 RANDY RHOADES #16 JOHNNY RAMONE
#82 DAVID GILMOUR #13 JERRY GARCIA
#70 EDDIE VANHALEN #12 KURT COBAIN
#60 DANNY GATTON #50 LOU REED

After reading the placement of Vanhalen at 70 I had to continue the article to see who the 69 others were ahead of him.Even though I knew the writers who were responsible were tripping heavy on acid and smoking crack, as I would dare any one with any relation to guitar playing to even make a ludicrous attempt to the placement numbers, and any attempt why 4 of the 5 guys in the second column could wind up on anyones top 200 list at all. Now we know we all feel we are right in an argument of opinions but this list was the most ridicules I have ever seen in my life there is not the slightest chance to make any sense of this at all and these are music experts.Oh and that genius JAN WENNER who is on the board of the rock and roll hall of fame was the one who found the loop hole in the voting system in 2007 that even though the Dave Clark Five finished with more votes, they were left out so Wenner could put in that great rock band GRAND MASTER FLASH AND THE FURIOS FIVE,and the DC5 had to wait till 2008 and MIKE SMITH the great vocalist from that band died a week before they were inducted.I swear I am getting twisted just writing this. The only thing I can say rollingstone has a use for is if you ran out of toilet paper in the bathroom.

But because you agree with a Magazine that does not make them credible and vise versa! I would say Hendrix was one of the most influential players but I would never say that about Eddie Van Halen even though I have been a Fan of the group Van Halen a lot of credit for the group goes to Sammy Hager and David Lee Roth with there vocal powers.
And guitar players that were influential you have to think of some like Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Wes Montgomery, Duane Allman and theres athers. EVH is in there but to me not in the top ten.
Plus you have to remember Rolling Stone Magazine is more then just a Top 100 list being put out ther. I will look through it at the store and I have bought a few but I am not a fan of it, That said they must be doing something right with allmost a 1.5 million circulation and thats bi weekly and they dont concider them selfs a music magazine but as a Pop Culture Magazine which is as it means. Its about whats popular in music, politics, and what ever is out there in a popular way, movements and so on. You are just trying to start trouble again like the neighborhood brat with ignorant remarks.

So alwaystrat why can't yuou use you other forum name? You have gone from highwayoneplayer to alwaysstrat to now strat2004 and you want to call someone not ,as you spell it creadidble ( credible ) . What have you ever proved other then your ignorance and need to be comfrontational towards people that don't agree with you. At this time you have less crditabilty then anyone on the forum and thats sad and sorry that you can't act like a civil adult. Even the many great young forum members act less childish then you.
Who knows maybe alwaysstrat don't work anymore for other reasons like highwayoneplayer's?

i remember rolling stone magazine in the 70s when it was considered pretty out there, if not left wing/hippy/anti vietnam/establishment/nixon etc etc. now if i see it in a mag shop and have a quick read, my impression is it aint that kind of mag no more. pretty lightweight. but the title has survived and that's something of an achievement in itself. i guess you can always apply the old rule, if you dont like it dont buy it.

You said it. Any magazine to survive the times like they have must be doing something right. I dont go out and buy them but I am not going to trash any publication over not agreeing with some top 100 list. Thats a lame excuse, I dont agree with a lot of publications on many different topics. I often read about some on the Mensa forum and wonder how some could agree, of course there different topics then music but there is still reasoning behind any publications thoughts. The store bought writen word is going away sadly and only the strong will survive.
