A 2006 MIM telecaster. By far and away the nastiest guitar I've ever had in my hands! Truely cant say enough bad things about that guitar.

A Fender Blues Junior. I apologize to the many fans of the amp, but this looks to me to be a case of the Emperor's New Clothes: people think it looks right, it smells like it has tubes, so it must sound great. But it doesn't.

Every post i made about the blues jr condensed into one simple statement. I'm back to using a highgain marshall for clean sounds now. Nothing has made a improvement to its tone, jj low current draw valves, celestion G12 speaker, repositioned the reverb tank to try and cut the noise (its far too close to the speaker, power transformer and valves). Put a trim pot in it to cool the bias, modded the mid pot to allow for zero mids.
What makes it worse is that i bought it on the recommendation of someone i trust. Yes its a MIA one before anyone tries to raise that ridiculous concept.

Hear, hear!

I've gone over this conundrum with amp experts I trust, and the consensus was: it's the circuit. That amp just doesn't sound very good. With me it was a vintage Jensen, JJ tubes, a couple of drive pedals (including a known-good BD-2), and I just couldn't get a usable tone from it. I'm guessing that if all you want is a real rackety rock n' roll noise when you dime it, the BJr. probably delivers just fine. But that doesn't cut it for me.

I bought a Line 6 Spider 30W some time ago, and within a week I realized it just wanted to sound bad.

I once traded in my 2007 MiM Std. for a Jackson DKMG (the ones with the EMG 81/85's and the fake Floyd bridge). I thought the Jackson was the berries in the shop. Got it home and each passing day I began to hate it more and more. Two weeks later, I traded it back in for my old MiM. Boy, will I never trade in the ol' Strat again!

Even though I traded it in, I still lost $180 off of the trade. At least I got the MiM back for an even trade.. :) :?

I waited a year for Rickenbacker to make me a Left Handed 370/12. Within a week I wished I had never ordered it. To me it was unplayable. The neck is very thin and with 12 strings crammed onto it I couldn't play any clean chords.

I waited a year for a CS Teambuilt Strat and the neck was not to my specs. It was a '65C and I was asking for a Clapton. It went back to the factory, and 6 mos later it returned, close but no cigar. I was not up to sending it back again.

Having compared specs with Alain and Niki on that and other V-neck carves, the Clapton remains thinner and more tapered by several millimeters than the standard Fender V-neck or even the one on the Hotrod. It is in it's own class. It was what I wanted, and what they never supplied. It speaks to the wisdom of a Masterbuilt order if you can carry the freight. I expect that if Jack Krause had built my Strat I'd still own it.

The guitar was swapped out for the Gilmour whose neck, though not a V-,
has a similar comfort feel to my hand as the Clapton. The VG which I just acquired is 'chunkier', but it's a different kind of toy, and I can live with that.

Forty bucks down the drain. :x

Lol. I feel you man. A total waste of forty cuts. I wasn't expecting tube amp tone, but damn this is the worst POS I ever bought

I bought an ESP/LTD Horizon H-100 FM... It was nice looking, but the fretboard was too flat for me and I could never get used to it.

I too had terrible experiences with a ESP LTD jh600. Once i got the neck straight and the frets level (which took way more work than usual) the thing sounded dead. Despite the emg81's and huge chunk of kahler metal.

I'm glad you guys brought this up. When are these companies going to finally stop fooling around and use some decent parts and make an amp that sounds like the legendary blues breaker at a decent price. The only amp I've ever sat in front of that sounds good for the price is the Deville and they are still close to a grand. Besides that there is nothing else out there under a grand and a half.

A word of advice before buying a lower priced amp check out the mods on the web. They will usually point out the weaknesses and of course want you to spend $500 to fix it.

Mustangtoo its not even that you pay for what you get with the blues jr. Fender produce far better amps for a lot less money. Perhaps its us, we certainly seem to be in the minority. I just need an amp that does good clean sounds and handles a half decent drive pedal ok. Reverb is a bonus i can live without. When the option is there though i expect it to do something except hiss.

I really like the wide variety of tones I'm getting from my Egnater Rebel 20. I can't say it sounds like a "bluesbreaker," but it does very convincing Deluxe Reverb, 18 watt Marshall and Vox AC 15 impressions, and with nothing but a clean boost. It also does a drop-dead perfect tweed Princeton. Big performance for the bucks.

To be fair, I did make a minor mod: I replaced both 12ax7's in the preamp with 5751's to lower the amp's gain, but that's just a matter of personal preference.... it sounded fine with the stock tubes.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll check out the amp.

I continue to search for that perfect amp that will take my soul and not wake up the neighbors.

Mustangtoo. I just won a powerbreak on ebay. I can now use my 100watt jcm 800s as practice amps. My favourite is a 4211 circuit that sounds terribly thin at low volume. I cant wait to whack it up to 8. It's rarely been above 3.

An electro Harmonix pulsar reissue. The worst gear related anything I have ever owned.I was walking into a vintage guitar shop just as a guy was finishing up using one.The sad part was I had a friend waiting in the car for me who was in a hurry and I just stopped to get strings.I asked the clerk what it was that guy was fooling with and as he said he only had one I took it on a whim.Well there were no instructions there are no number settings and after 2 or 3 days it went back in the box where it has remained, A real piece of junk that I had no use at all for and belive me I have patience. One day I was on Harmony central looking up some gear reviews and I looked it up and thought I lost my mind as people were raving about it,until I saw they were talking about the original, when I clicked on the reissue I felt better as it got slammed by everyone as the piece of junk it is.The only pedal I ever bought that I never had no use for.PERIOD
