No, it isn't. If Walmart managed to press the record company into NOT releasing the album AT ALL with objectionable lyrics, then it would be censorship. It is merely a business decision that A) Is their right and B) one that you disagree with.

Well said... This is what this is all about. It doesn't matter if you like there music or not.

They didn't tell you you couldn't listen to it. They didn't take any of your freedom away. You can still buy the album....just not at Walmart. They made a corporate decision not to carry CDs that have PG labels. THAT IS THEIR RIGHT. Just as it's Green Day's right to NOT change their lyrics to sell CDs there. The military members you mention died as much for Walmarts freedom to not carry the CD as for Green Day's freedom to not sell it.

It's a control issue... They have money and they are trying to control YOU and ME and everyone/thing.

Staredge is exactly correct. There is no censorship here. Walmart is providing this service to parents who don't wish their children to be bombarded by F-bombs and sexual references in their music. It's okay for me to listen to unedited Buckcherry (and I do), but I don't want my kids listening to that sort of stuff until their older. Guess what? It is called "being a parent".

Personally, though, Green Day has been very uninteresting since their second album.

Do you really want Walmart raising your children and teaching them moral values? They ARE trying censor artists. Everyone needs to pay attention to what their children are doing anyway. I raised my own son and did MY best to teach him right from wrong.

Maybe Walmart is inserting subliminal messages into the music of the artists who knuckle under telling kids to shop at Walmart. :D

Now I will not only refuse to shop there, I will boycott any artist who caves in to them with censored lyrics. (Not that I listen to it anyway) :D

No, I'll raise my own kids. Thanks to Walmart, I do know where I can get music that I can let them listen to. Do you blast the radio stations that require the same "censorship"?????

Does that include artists that haven't had to clean up albums??? They apparently don't have a problem with Walmarts policies.

Those songs usually don't get airplay due to Federal Regulations. The government is involved, not a corporation.

Did you notice the smiley faces in my post??? I don't listen to much stuff with foul lyrics except for maybe Zappa, and that's more for the musical content.
Just like buying Playboy Magazine for the articles.

Walmart has rights just like I do. I also have a right to express my opinion too. I don't have to agree with you or anyone else. You also have the right to ignore my posts. No one makes you respond to them, It's your right if you want to.

I can't stand the way Walmart treats the people who work hard for them. They deserve better things like a decent wage and benefits. They can afford it with all the profits they turn. I have friend and family who have worked very breifly for them. One was involved in the lawsuit that involved women being paid less than men.

If you like Walmart, fine purchase from them, you can even work for them I don't mind, but I choose to censer them from my wallet.

So......censorship is ok if it's the government, but not ok if it's by a private company?????

I did. My question is about artists that don't have PG stickers. They must be ok with Walmarts business policies, as they aren't willing to stand up to them as Green Day has done.

I have NO problem with the feelings you have for Walmart. They are yours, and you are entitled to them. The problem I have is the way you make your argument. I'm on a Don Quixote style quest to purge internet forums of misapplied censorship/1st amendment protests.

Much ado about nothing if you ask me.

Green Day fans portraying them as some kind of heroes? Why?
(Not a slam on their music, I don't love or hate them.) And I refuse to shop at walmart for a variety of reasons, but this is a nonissue to me.

But this is all about this simple exchange:

Walmart: We have a company policy(which we have had for decades,) not to stock albums with foul, vulgar, or offensive language. If you want us to sell your album we would need a cleaned up version.

Green day: Sorry we have made this album, and its what we want to present to the public, so we don't want to make changes.

Walmart: Well, then sorry we won't be carrying it.

That's where this should have ended. there is no censorship here, Walmart wasn't campaigning to have GD's album banned. All they did was not stock it. Green day saw the marketing potential, and ran with it. People with jerky knees starting yelling censorship.

Really I have more issues with bands that sign exclusivity deals with walmart. It seems to me, that they support walmart if they do so, and I don't.So there are albums by bands I like that I will not own. But its my stance to personally boycott them. i have no issues with them actually standing up for something they theoretically believe in. I have bigger issues with many of their other policies, and this is really all about nothing.
