There's a guitar shop in Phoenix called Bizarre Guitar and Drum, and the workers are extremely polite and knowledgable. They my brother and I like adults and trust us with their higher-end gear.

Here's the site. Great selection of gear.

Independent shops like Bizarre Guitar do have their advantages. You don't touch anything in there without asking. Every guitar that's marked new is new and hasn't been part of a wank fest. You can also hear yourself think in there because there isn't constant shredding in the background. I appreciate that. :)

Since returning to playing in Dec of 2009 after a 22 yr absence I have explored numerous large and smaller shops in NYC and the NY/NJ Metro area and have found that Richie's Music located on Rt. 46 West in Rockaway, N.J. is a fantastic place. The owner Jim will go above and beyond to help either a new or experienced player in addition his staff is knowledgeable and polite. The prices are fair and all are encouraged to ask questions.

In the opposite the Music Den located on Rt 10 East Ledgewwod, N.J. the staff outright suck, being arrogant, disinterested and downright rude. Same is true of a NYC's 30 St Guitar with the "Woodywoodpecker" logo they are snobs, and the least interested in anything other then "looking cool".

Now mind you I make a point of taking off my zippered sweatshirt AND belt BEFORE playing any instrument on display(why "rash" a new guitar). I'm not overly inquisitive knowing pretty much what I want when I walk in but I do sometimes need assistance. Richie's Music has now become my first choice especially for service whether a neck alignment or electronics repair. They are timely, neat, and the labor costs more than fair.
