why is it that when i looked under the Fender Artists page, there's a bunch of Fender players missing, like Bruce Springsteen and his band, Andy Summers, and a bunch of other good guitarists. Yet, we've got these suck new bands on here?

WOW STRYDER,You are right no Springsteen or Summers maybe its because they have been playing Fender teles for over a combined total 80 years. But in this day and age I guess that dont stand for much.I love Fender guitars more than any other but they treat there customers like s%#t.I have only dealt with customer service once and it was a nightmare just go to HARMONY CENTRAL and look at ant review of a Fender product and then look at the scoring of dealing with customer service it is the lowest rated of any company that exist they just dont care I guess. Now the only other guitars I own are PEAVEY Wolfgangs which I have 4 of and 3 I got on ebay. I have called them to find out the year each guitar was made I needed a wammy bar for one and I wanted a pair of stoptail screws another time.I was treated like I was there most important customer ever talk about polite had me on the phone 10 minuetes onetime while the guy found out what year my guitar was made he was talking about music and guitars just so cool. The wammy bar was $7 THE SCREWS WERE $2 and let me just say the Wolfgang is one kickass guitar.Fender better wake up and start treating us better because a lot of these small companies are catching up with quality gear and when I spend a lot of money on something I want to feel that my buisness is appreciated not like were so big who needs you.I tried to get into talking on the PEAVEY forum but outside of the Wolfgang and some amps you can here the crickets chirping and a guy on there said the Fender forum has 100 times more people on it .But I will say since they dony have the Wolfgang no more they made the HP CUSTOM which is another killer ax similar to the Wolf but has a coil tap to split the humbuckers into single coils nice guitar.AGAIN FENDER WAKE UP AND TREAT US A LIL BETTER.

I think its down to sponsored artists. Andy summers isnt a huge seller anymore though he's a guitar god. Springsteen has always shyed away from endorsements. I'd kill for a brucey tele but theres no chance of em being released ever.

Well, the way I figure it, even though a hefty bunch of veteran artists you mentioned are missing, we veteran players are not likely to run out in any large number and buy the guitars they use simply because they are the ones using them. Also, these artists are personally recognized. If Fender were to post these artists attached to Fender equipment (kind of like an implied endorsement), I'm sure the artists would want a piece of the action, all to varying degrees because product recognition would be secondary to again, the public recognizing them where they'd ultimately have to discuss their choice of Fender guitar(s) and or/amp(s), etc. And let's face it, some of their endorsers and signature artists, past and present, bite the big one and I'm sure Fender has incurred some noteworthy financial losses on account of these poor judgement decisions.

See, they should ask us!

Now with these new bands, they are still in the musical whoring stage where they want all the press they can get. I'm sure, even they know deep down that will never make it to the status of a Springsteen or a Summers. They even feel all the more special because Fender tagged them. It's a battle of the bands type mentality where they are the winners. Obviously, this ilk also attracts a newer, younger audience. Many of which will be inspired to learn how to play for the first time or to play better. Chances are, they will be wanting what their 'heroes' play and these 'heroes', hoping for a signature guitar which in the real world will probably never happen, are more than happy to spew the virtues of their chosen guitar(s) and or/amp(s), etc. for free.

And then, there's simple product recognition: Show as many 'artists' and players as you can, using your stuff, preferably to where it doesn't cost you anything.

As always, this is merely my opinion, YMMV. FWIW though, if I was in Fender's position, the aforementioned is what would be my considerations as well.

Becoming a "Fender Artist" is a mutual agreement between the company and the artist, with the request initiated by the artist. The people you mention probably just haven't asked to BE "Fender Artists."

It's not a Hall of Fame or a Lifetime Achievement Award. Just a business deal.

Maybe I am looking in the wrong place or not understanding the thread ... but Andy Summers is there. Along with Pete Townshend, Buddy Guy, Yngwie, Jeff Beck, Clapton, Dweezil, Eric Johnson, Dick Dale, etc, etc, ...

'Zactly. After they built that amazingly expensive clone of Andy's Tele and then he toured it for 18 months it would be extremely astonishing if he wasn't on the list...!

On Springsteen, I have no idea what but there must be a very specific reason why there's never been a Sig of his Tele. I for one bought a natural finish Tele simply because I learned to love that look from the Born to Run album cover - and I sure as heck ain't the only one who's given Fender money on that basis...

Cheers - C

I'll bet the reason Bruce is not listed has more to do with Bruce than Fender ...

Yeah!!!!! And how come there's no Springsteen Signature Esquire????
Just kidding

I don't think Springsteen really cares. I'm not a huge fan, but I like some of his older music. I think he runs a little deeper than that.
