There are two concerts at equal sized venues across the street from one another. One has David Gilmour and the other Roger Waters. You are offered equally great seats for both but you are only allowed to attend one. Which is it gonna be?

Having seen all three iterations I have to say that neither one is as good alone as they were together. There was a synergy that isn't easy to recreate.

Of the two halves, I definitely missed David Gilmour's guitar and vocals more than Roger's.

So...Point Gilmour.

Just watch " Live in Gdansk" and you'll see why Gilmour is so great.

An interesting survey might ask how much we would pay for tickets to a PF reunion show including both Waters & Gilmour. I, for one, would pay a lot to see that.

Remember the body language between Gilmour and Waters at the end of this short set? Let's not hold our breath for that reunion tour - we'd die of suffocation:

Man, what a going-through-the-motions piece of bringdown THAT was, Ceri. Cripes. No doubt, the performance of that song in "Live At Gdansk" blows it away... absolutely electrifying, and maybe Gilmour's best live performance of that solo ever.

And you know, as great and as often-praised as the guitar soloing is, it's the way Gilmour sings his sections that sticks with me through the years. The lines "You are only coming through in waves," and "When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse... I cannot put my finger on it now," still give me chills.

But it's just no fun to be onstage with someone you would just as soon punch in the face. Been there, done that. You just can't be at your best.

I found that Live 8 thing embarrassing and fascinating to watch. Roger Waters was saying, "Let's hug and make up in front of the world." And Gilmour's body language replied: "Frankly, I'd rather prise my own eyeballs out with a plastic fork."

It made me squirm in my seat! I couldn't look away!

BTW: dunno if the between sets bits of Live 8 went out in the US. There was a delicious moment just before The Who came on when I thought British comdian Peter Kay was about to get stomped live on TV by The Who's road crew, lead by Bobby Pridden. Another unmissable moment of that day...

Cheers - C

I'd be going to see David Gilmour, no question.
