Personally I would go for an electric. I think they are easier to play.

Learning on an acoustic is the best way to go. You build finger strength and toughen your fingers on an acoustic. Then at the same time you train your ear for true tone on an acoustic to. It's always easier to go from acoustic to electric than electric to acoustic simply because of how each one feels and plays. Whatever you do stick with it and practice daily.

Which one do you want to play?

Start on that.

But I think I will stick with the Electric, because I like listening to rock and metal music.

Hang around in a good store on off-peak hours. Hold more than a few and feel for what's comfortable and fun. Ask the staff to please play a bit of demo. And pick a few tentative notes, yourself.

Then go home and think on it a while.

Likely your query will answer itself. Best of fortune.

If you start on acoustic you don't have to buy an amp or worry about how to set all those knobs. Fewer distractions, more practice. 8)

Hi, SaverzerX, and welcome to the forum. I think there are a lot of good arguments for starting with an acoustic guitar. However, I would recommend that you start with an instrument that excites you and makes you want to play, whatever that may be. I had an acoustic guitar when I was a teenager, and I never once picked it up because it just didn't grab me. But when I decided to get serious at the ripe old age of 43, I went for a Stratocaster because it excited me. And I haven't put it down since. If you do what makes you happy, there's no wrong answer.

So go get the guitar of your choice and go to town! 8)

Hi

I am a beginner player too. I started off lessons using a acoustic and switched to a electric. The electric was much easier to learn on and less fustrating to perform cords correctly. You can always switch up to acoustic once you aquired finger strength and can do cords correctly.
You can practice on electric just fine without a amp too.

Regards.

My first guitar was a Strat, and I think that was best for me. I wanted to play electric, and I wanted to play lead. I learned licks first, and then I learned my chords. An electric guitar is also easier to play, see over, and isn't as frustrating as an acoustic can be for beginners. Don't worry about finger strength yet, you'll get there regardless of whether you start on acoustic or electric. Choose the one you want to play, not the one people tell you to.

another thing you'll want to consider is price...

sit down and ask yourself,"is this something i REALLY want to do?"
if so, i recomend buying a more expenssive guitar that will hold up for a long while.

Thats a double edged question which there is no right answer. There are so many guitars sold but I would like to know for every guitar sold how many people stick with it.As I have been in so many houses through out the years that had a guitar that a member of the family bought but did not stick with it.I personaly started on an acoustic. So when I got an electric the neighbors were not tortured.Either way you can not go wrong .I would believe all guitarist need one of each as you will read in a thousand interviews most of the heaviest riffs were composed on an acoustic, but I would recomend you go with an electric for versatility as you can dial up a clean sound which I would tell you to do because if you start playing with to much distortion at first your going to mask a lot of mistakes.Either way just stick with it and believe me it will be your best friend for life .GOOD LUCK

I started on an acoustic but quickly switched to an electric as it is much easier to play. It also helps if the type music you want to play is played on the type guitar you ultimately purchase. HAVE FUN!!!!

Electrics are more fun (and easier) to play. My only advice is to buy the best guitar that you can afford. That way you will have an instrument that looks and sounds good and one that you will not out grow in 6 months.

Avoid the newish "Starcaster" at all costs.
Any of the MIM Standards or upper end Squiers are great choices
