I own 1 hollow body and 2 semi-hollow body electrics. The hollow body is a Gretsch Electromatic 5120. It took me a while to get used to the size of the body and you have to be a contortionist to access the upper frets, but I love the sound.

The semi-hollows are a Fender '72 Tele Thinline Reissue and a Gibson ES-339. The Thinline is a Tele all the way but with a thicker, warmer, mellower tone from its humbuckers. The ES-339 gives me the tones of an ES-335 with a more compact, lighter body. It has become my favorite Gibson.

I also owned an Epiphone Casino but it never won me over. It got traded in for an American Standard Tele. :)

Here's a pic of my 3 hollow and semi-hollow electrics.

This isn't my Univox because i don't have a picture of it. I'll take some when i get it back from my Guitar Tech. But mine is Identical, i'm going to probably drop some P90's or some Mini Humbuckers...i haven't decided which because the Univox HR-2 came with Single coils and i wanted to keep to that standard....although some Mini's would sound great though.

P.S. how do you post images on this blog. i've not figured it out yet.

My main axe is my Ibanez AS103 BM-ABR. I almost bought a 335 until I found this one. After I played it I couldn't justify the 335 price tag. This guitar will do anything. I love my strat too, but I find myself using this one most of the time. The one at the bottom is also an Ibanez, an AK75 with upgraded Golden Age pickups and strung with flatwounds. A real "jazzbox". It's not as good as the AS but I still like it a lot. I'm pretty impressed with the Artcores as far as hollows and semi-hollows go. A good bang for the buck.

I love my AF95.

And most other Artcores I've tried are nice guitars as well.

A few years ago, Guitar Player magazine reviewed a bunch of low-priced guitars coming out of China and Korea like the Ibanez ArtCores and Epiphones. They were astounded at the quality of the products coming out of Asia for so little money.

I bought a Gretsch 5122 double cutaway in 07 when they first came out. after some bridge, neck and saddle adjustments the action is great. the floating bridge is a pain. I change 1 string at a time so I won't move the bridge around.

The sound is mellow and very jazzy. A well made instument for the price. I just don't like lugging that thing around its heavier than my strats and the scale is shorter. I really don't play it as often as I should.

My Casino is my main guitar (though the Gibson I'm working on may push it from the top), and I can't imagine not having a hollowbody, or an ES-style guitar.

I'd like to go with a semi-hollow, humbuckered version, but it hasn't come to the top of my list yet... for electric guitars, a Les Paul-sounding instrument is there...

Of course, PRS makes a semi-hollow version of the SE Custom, and I'm very interested in that. If I stumbled onto some money, I'd be buying an ES-339.

I have my late Grandfather's Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean (70's model). Sounds beautiful, plays good, except it has sustained great damage, and the strings haven't been replaced in about 12 or 13 years.

I have an 82' ES335TD, and I must say that it is the most cantankerous of all my guitars. It has the slim profile neck and VERY low-flat frets which makes bending strings near the first few frets a real chore.

Drawbacks aside, it delivers some very wonderful tones that my other guitars can not.

Me too, I bought To use as a beater for $150. It's seriously nice. I might put Burstbuckers in it. Kind of like a poor mans ES335.

I still might buy an Ibanez Artcore AFS75T, one of these days, and swap a set of Duncan Phat Cats (or other 'bucker sized P90) in place of the 'buckers. The only reason I didn't buy one, when I was looking for a rockabilly box and ended up instead buying the Peavey JF2 EX, was because it really sounded too much like my AG75TBS. If I happen to be wrong about making a rockabilly box out of an AFS75T with P90s, I can always put the 'buckers back in it and sell 'em all separately (guitar, set of P90s).

One thing I can honestly say about Ibanez guitars, and speaking from experience of owning 3 Ibanez guitars, is that whatever it is they do, they do it very well. Sure there are folks that'll knock Ibanez because they can afford to buy a more expensive Fender or Gibson model (which in a way is looking down at poor/not-so-rich people), but as far as trying to steer somebody toward a best bang-for-the-buck guitar purchase, Ibanez will be one of the brands I mention, along with Squier and Epiphone. Oh sure I could have scrimped and saved some more, until I could afford a Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany (a damned good bang-for-the-buck way into for real Gibson Les Paul), but instead I went for an Ibanez GAX70.

Of course, I do "suffer" from this "malady" known as G.A.S. (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome), so it's entirely possible that, sometime in the future, I'll eventually get around to buying some things like a Fender TC-90 or JA-90 Telecaster, a couple of Gretschs (solid and hollow bodied) and even another Gibson Les Paul (carved top with 'buckers - already got a few flat top w/P90 Les Pauls).

Matt
