I read a lot of forums where everyone is bored of this sound or that. But one thing no one ever brings up is hollow body or Semi hollow body guitars. And they should. I feel everyone should own one. I feel a lot of younger players and some seasoned players just pass them by.

Not only are they great to play but the tones are just amazing. Everything from your ES's, Sheratons, Artcore, and Gretsch's are all amazing sounding and playing guitars. And there's a certain fun quality to them, you either feel like a old blues man or 50's player when you are playing.

I have a 1965 Univox "Lawsuit" guitar (es-335 copy) and i couldn't imagine not having it in my lineup. It has the second best action out of all my guitars...of course my Strat has the best. But none the less it's just a joy to play.

Cause when things get stagnet it's something to break the same ol same ol.

Some just can't get comfortable with the size, but I couldn't agree more.

One of the biggest kicks I get is to play the Green one for an hour or so then pick up the red maple capped slab of mahogany. (Easy Bud's, I love my Strat, too.)

I have an Epiphine Dot, as well as my strat and and an assortment of other guitars. I don't think I could ever play just one guitar, or even just one style of guitar. For me each guitar i have fills a different requirement in feel, or sound. I do however favor my strat over the others, but its more of an 'open marriage'

I have an Ibanez Artcore AG75TBS, and a Peavey JF2 EX for my hollow body/semi-hollow body choices. Whenever the opportunity ever comes along, I wouldn't mind adding a Fender TC-90 Telecaster, and a Gretsch or two to my collection.

Ijust got a great archtop, a Gibson ES 339. It is a small bodied version of the famed ES335. It has the 50 Gibson humbuckers and the fat neck, not the 59/63 or what ever they call the narrow neck. It also had some kind of Memphic tone Circuit that allows you to keep the tone even when the volume pot is turned down. Now I have onwed a couple of Gretsches, couple of artcores, a few Rics and an Eastman. Sold them all, because I seem to gravitate towards my Telecasters and never played them. I also own a Squier master Series Thinline Tele. I usally don't look at Gibsons in general, but I was in the market for an archtop and was thinking of adding a 72 thinline or a gretsch 5122. I also toyed with the idea of making a doubled F hole Tele, but after making a tele from parts, its easier to buy an archtop and cheaper. Originally, I was shown the ES339 by the manager of one of the Guitar Centers. I didn't play it then because Like I said, I am a Fender guy. When I got home, I looked up the ES 339 and was impressed with what I read. Still, the price was a bit steep for what I had in mind if I were to buy an archtop. I finally played one in NYC and was taken back by how easy it was to play. It sounded pretty good to. still not sure what the Memphis tone circuit did playing it, nor do i know now that i own it. So, of course GAS got the best of me, I had to have it. Sold a couple of guitars and I know own an ES 339 and amd getting used to it. It is a Gibson, so it taking time to get used to it. I like the tones and being a small body makes the transition an easy one. Once I have a chance to play it at a Gig, I will have a better idea of the range it has. so far, if you like a smaller body, this is something to look at. By the way, I also saw a similiar small bodied ES 336 that was also a custom shop model. The only difference is that it was a solid wood guitar and not the laminate that the 339 is made of. I have to figure, they both sound similiar and saving another 400 bucks made the decision an easy on. Who knows, if I get a bunch of money, I may end up with two Gibson archtops.

Oh, I agree. I love them. I hope to someday own one, like a Gretsch or something. They are just fun to play, and I don't really know why.

My only hollowbody is also a Univox, but a couple years newer than yours (it's about a 1969, give or take a year): a copy of a Barney Kessel (think of a couple cutaway Nugent-like Byrdland).

I have owned several in different sizes (Gretsch Tennessee Rose, Rickenbacker 370/12, Gibson CS-336, Jay Turser 335 copy). I couldn't bond with any of them.

If all goes well one of my next few guitars should be an Epi Dot. :D Although I just might save that money for a Custom Shop Strat. I'm not sure yet, but it's not something I need to worry about any way because it's a moot question with no money.

My wife bought me an Ibanez AF85 full hollow body that I absolutely love. At first it didn't play that well so I took it to a repair shop and had them set it up and install a bone nut. Now it is one of my best playing guitars. It has this amazingly smooth mellow tone, and it looks fantastic with it's flame maple vintage violin finish! I can't imagine not having it in my collection now!

And I have 2 completely hollow acoustics.

But, I might get a semi-hollow one of these days.

I had alwasyswanted a semi hollow body so I bought an Ibanez Artcore.
I played it for a bit when I first got it but I slowly started to go back to my Tele. After a while I did'nt play it at all until I would think about trading it in. I would take it to a jam and say "no I'll keep it". I did this for about 2 years until I traded it in for my first Strat!
