I have been thinking about buying a baritone for a while now. Does anyone have any experience playing one? The Jaguar HH special baritone looks great, are there any other brands I should be looking at?

Any help would be appreciated :D

Danelectro, cheap and cheerful. I think it was actually danelectro who first came up with the baritone

The Fender VI (Bass VI) tuned an octave below guitar is absolutely wonderful.

Play it like a tenor sax.

I have a couple of them. No Fenders though. Had I bought the Jag in the beginning something tells me I would have loved it. I made the mistake initially of buying a BC Rich 30" off ebay before testing one out. There weren't any here in Vegas at the time to test. The guitar is unbalanced and the neck wants to drop toward the floor when you strap it on and stand up. It's great for recording though.

My LTD MHB-400 is much better. But it comes with a Maple body. It was very bright. I had to install a Dimarzio Super Distortion to give it some bass tones.

My next venture would have probably been a Mahogany bodied Baritone. PRS-SE maybe. I didn't like the feel of the Ibanez MM model. The neck felt too much like a LP. I don't think the Fender Sub-Sonic or Jag would have that problem. Danelectros just are what they are, never really cared for the look of them.

If I were to be looking for one today I'd be looking at:

Fender Jag
Fender Sub Sonic
PRS SE
Schecter

My biggest advice would be don't go over a 28" neck. Unless you happen to be 6'-4" or something. My old Bass player was a big guy, he loved playing my BC Rich. I'm only 5'-6", the guitar is bigger than I am. Hahaha.

There's the Gretsch Electromatic Jet Baritone, which sells for $525.00 at Musician's Friend. Gretsch also makes an Electromatic Jet Double Neck.

Thanks for all the input. I went to my local music store last night and they had the new PRS SE Mike Mushok signiture baritone so I had the chance to test it out. I was really impressed. I prefer the looks of the Jaguar, but I hate to spend that kind of money without playing it first. I may just buy the PRS, I know I can't go wrong as far as quality goes even from the SE line! Thanks again everyone. :D

This is good info. I really like the range of the baritones and I've been considering buying one, but I don't know enough about them yet to make an informed decision.
