Why do people feel the need, on every forum, to start these pointless threads?

"I got up this morning and remembered that I hate Springsteen and Nirvana. Let's see if I'm right!"

No, you're not. Nobody who hates anything or walks around saying that so-and-so is "overrated" (what the hell does that mean, anyway? That somebody enjoys the music and they shouldn't?) is ever "right."

This kind of thread is the hallmark of people who talk about music instead of playing it.

No recording artist is "overrated." They're all working musicians. The popular ones found an audience. If that bugs you for some reason, tough.

You don't like Bruce Springsteen??? Springsteen is "The Boss". I love his stuff. He's a legend in my book.

Yeah I also got to go with John Mayer as being overrated. I personally see no magic in anything he does.

All the new groups is pretty much overrated. I think the biggest crock of $@!& rumor that I've ever heard was when everybody was saying that Keith Urban was the best guitarist in Nashville. I almost died of laughter at the time, it was a pretty good joke, hehe. Nashville is full of session guitarist, some that haven't even been heard of yet, that could run him in the ground.

Every slavering slobbering word of praise heaped on the unworthy is a word withheld for the worthy. It's musical injustice.

If you skip over the obvious gaggle of over-hyped female singers who aren't really musicians anyways, and past all the absurdly over-praised hip-hop artists who are more or less in the same category, one must agree that John Mayer is pretty much number one oversold musician right now.

Because he sux? Heck no, he's a really good, talented guitarist, which is kind of what Fender is all about here.

It's just that he's massively oversold as the second coming in every pop music rag in existence, which is kind of a merging of Tiger Beat and Rolling Stone is terms of musician critique integrity.

Now Mayer himself is a real humble guy, appears to be the nicest guy in the world. But the hype/marketing on this artist driven by sales numbers is just off the charts.

He's not an innovator, borrows heavily from Jimi and SRV, his songs and tortured vocal stylings are bland and mainstream, and bottom line: he ain't the second coming.

In fact, it's a testament to the paucity of any real inheritor to the groundbreaking blues/pop legacy of Jimi and SRV and Clapton that a guy like Mayer is held up as high as he is. This generation hasn't produced anybody who could lick their fringe buckskin jackets.

First of all look up the word SUBJECTIVE,

Secondly, I was bored at work and am wasting time and am not hurting anyone.

Thirdly, unless your last name is Fender, and I doubt it is, then this isn't your website so if you don't like it don't post or don't read it. You have that right.

Fourhtly and most importantly......piss off

I love threads like this. We all have our likes and dis-likes. This thread could go on forever, with little if nothing really acomplished. Let's waste our time on more Productive and Positive threads that can increase our love for Fender products and the people who play them.

Yes the threads about who your favorite player, Bands of the Alphabet, follow the song with a song from the last letter of the post before, and whether you play a strat or a tele or write your own music , are so much more informitive and important.

Give me a break and give yourself on too. Sounds like you need it.

peace

I dont know why people say John Mayer is overrated as a fan I like him for his Music not because he has recieved hype or because of a Rolling Stone cover for me its just his music. His music isnt intended for everyone to like.

I honestly cant say anyone is overrated. Some bands or artists may not be appealing to you but they became famous because they have a following and the music they make speaks to their fans in some way. If you dont like an artist just dont listen to them or support them. They got famous without your support and will not miss your support. Its pretty simple if you dont like it dont listen to it.

I agree with your point of view about the above, I guess I don't mind reading about favorite bands or guitars, or even lead or rhythm but why do we always have to make a point of view or thread that is based by a negative statement. It could have been started with why he doesn't like a certain artist and then the thread can be debated from there. I know I may be talking semantics.

technically there is no such thing as over rated. the reviews you read in magazines are the views of one person, its up to you what you think is good or bad. thats whay i never take notice of what these reviewers say, i listen to what i think is good, and dont listen to what i dont like. it all just rounds down to personal opinion dont it
