Well Chet i can certainly agree with that. I'd like to think it was a budget production but have no idea of tv at the time. All said and done its a good tv show for an hour a week.

For TV at the time it was right up there with everything else as far as budget. However the sets for the most part looked quite cheap and cheesy.

The later series (TNG, Voyager, DS9) are all quite well acted and look like high budget shows.
Having such a high caliber actor such as Patrick Stewart in TNG was wonderful!!!!

I think that I'll read again the Eugene Wesley Rodenberry's bio, it's been so long I forgot a few things. But I remember that the teenager was given free flying lessons along with anyone that would be willing to go. It was war at the time and anyone that could fly a plane was an important asset. Later when he was flying Bombers night missions, he would gaze at the stars and dream on. It was always easy for him to come up with stories of his own. Very interesting reading.
As for Bill Shatner, he was part of day one of television in Canada in the early fifties. (Some of his early work was reused in an episode of Boston Legal). It is true that he is no Jack Nicholson or Sidney Poitier but he did his own stuf, fed his family and you can hardly do your thing in life and be the most popular guy around all the time with everyone. I have mixed feelings myself about his acting, but I first knew him when I was a teenager and for me he will always be Captain Kirk. Beam me up Scotty. 8)

Thought about my earlier comments and had a slight change of mind. Shatner as kirk is intriniscaly woven into ST. I shouldnt have been so hard on the guys acting. Its hardly fair to judge a ancient tv show by todays standards is it. Blake7 anyone.

No I think that it wouldn't be fair to compare two shows separated by thirty years. I also think that Shatner pushed his luck too far by forcing Kirk into too much movies. Some people do movies for art and money, some do it for money, it's ok. Shatner wrote his own chapter in the movie industry mostly in the slap-stick section. Seems like bashing Shatner but it's not. I respect the guy who made his way without killing anyone. 8)

Yup, saw it twice. You're very right, it was surprising how good it was done, I thought it would be super nerdy.

The first time I went with some friends just to hang out. The movie roll fell off the projector and we had to wait for a while 'til it was fixed. They gave us "emergency tickets" for the inconvenience (which we could redeam for a free movie) and a week later, to the day, I saw it again with most of the same friends.

Yeah, the acting was good... the story was good... it had it's funny parts... so, yeah, good.
