I'm a fairly new beginner at about 6 months of playing but i'm finding i need to grab the shammy almost every time i grab my guitar and i use a hardcase for storage while i'm not playing and i'm wondering if i have to shop vac it out or what?
How often do you guys do, "the clean"? Also what do you use? :)
Happy picking!

Actually that's not a bad habit to fall into. A lot of times you'll find that just buffing it with a dry cloth after every other use does a lot of good.. I wax my guitars about every 6-months as well.

fender teamed up with meguire's haha? classic lol
i suppose the 4 month servicing is a good way to keep your investment in tact, but when i took my guitar in for it's for set-up they charged me 78 canadian and I wasn't to happy, at that price i'm not having someone do it every 4 month and I don't know where to pick it up, anybody know of any good luthier type books or instructionals?

my guitars get a lot of use even when i'm not playing
live. i learn how to set up my guitars from a luthier
some years back it's not hard to do.

I have three electric guitars and one acoustic. I play at least one hour every day. I wipe down the guitar after I am done playing with a clean soft cloth including the strings. I also wash my hands prior to playing them. About once a month I clean one of them with either Fender or some other high quality cleaner, so that every four months every one of them has been cleaned and polished. We spend a lot of money on our guitars keeping them clean and shiny is a small investment in the long run. :)

Those two things are the best advice - regular everyday care is better than occassional major clean with polish etc.

I wipe mine down after each use and polish them at each string change with Fender Meguire's polish.

Ditto here.Wash hands before I play and wipe down strings after use which is such an important lil issue a lot of guys still forget to do and then want to know why there strings are dead after 3 sessions

I am compulsively neat and love the fact that my guitars are strictly my realm so I can keep them clean with no interference from the family. I try to have clean hands when playing them, wipe them with a soft rag after every play, and case them when not playing.

I love them to be shiny and clean every time I take them out.
