I was just about this the other day (I think about random things like this a lot lol) and I wondered what your opinions were.

I like to go out and listen to live music, but on CD/Album/Tape I prefer studio tracks.

They do?

MIllions spent on iPods and iTunes, and your local bar is cancelling live music.

I think people like records best.

Im like Chet, I like to see live music, but it looses a bit to listen to "recorded live". I still like bar band best!

I was at a friends 50th birthday last summer. She had a band, (who were also friends), drummer, base, lead and vocals/keyboard. IT ROCKED!!! Those old guys, (my age!), were so good and so loud I'm amazed the neighbours didn't call the cops! The singer was a lawyer and the lead guitarist (with a beauty old Strat) was the music teacher at a local high school. Can't remember when I had so much fun. Nothing compares to live IMO.

I love live music. There's just something about having no safety net. its where everything might crash to the ground, but on the other hand you might get that magic moment. You really have to play with confidence live, and I think it shows through. the truly great truly shine live.

Aside from Adam Pascal I find most bands are hard to understand unless you see them live.

In my opinion alot of studio music is just plain old too slow. The band often plays the song a bit faster live. Which makes it sound better. Also alot of bands have the guitar turned down or tamed down too much. I like how a guitar player can sort of "open up" more live.

So much music today is just so overproduced. To the point where the studio album becomes unlistenable after you hear the song live. This is an odd thing coming from me because I used to hate live recordings. Now I gravitate towards them. I dunno, just my thoughts

There are very few good live recordings. Here's mine...

Get Yer Ya Ya's Out - Rolling Stones

Johnny Winter And Live - Johnny Winter

Rockin' The Filmore - Humble Pie

I used to like to listen to the King Biscuit Flower Hour on the radio. There are so many new bands that I see on Letterman or Saturday Night Live that just don't cut it live. You wonder how they even got themselves signed up.

Find I can listen to and enjoy almost any kind of music live. Nothing beats having living people in front of you doing it for real. Best of all is a tiny venue where audience and performers really interact.

Quite a few times I've been so enthusiastic for live music of a type I hadn't listened to before that at the end I've bought the band's CD and taken it home - only to discover it ain't my cup of tea at all, out of context.

Got a pile of records in that catagory.

Cheers - C

Depends on the band. Some are utter disappointments live, others are amazing.

Yknow i think live music enjoys its fanbase (that are a very diehard loyal lot) simply because its so interactive. Some bands are terrible live granted. Their usually the ones with a super polished stage show that forget the one simple basic concept, people want to interact with a band. Live music fans dont want to see someone play just like they do on the record. May as well stay at home and listen to the record rather then pay to see that. I've seen rubbish bands play great live and great bands be rubbish.
