I started out wanting to be the rhythm player, but by necessity, I became the lead player in my first several bands - lead singer, too. Over the years I have been both, but I have enjoyed the times I got to play rhythm behind a really good lead player. My favorite situation is singing lead and playing rhythm - easier on the brain!

One could consider "lead" an outdated term...kinda, in these modern days it seems we play guitar that combines both.

Ah, yes indeed, so much has changed in guitar playing since StRaT_MaN started this thread way back in the olden days... of... 2007.

But then I've a feeling you noticed the post dates, Mike. :)

Cheers - C

Holy thread revival!

I've been practicing rhythm a lot lately, and it's tough. You're basically carrying the song and moving chord shapes (power and barre) around can be tiring. That's the challenge I've been facing now, fighting fretting hand fatigue mid-song. People always remember the lead guitarists but it's the rhythm guitar player who's doing most of the work.
