I'm sure this is a question that you all have answered a million times. What are some good rock songs to play as a cover band? I live in Arkansas so I am not interested in heavy metal or thrash metal I am asking about that list of songs that are considered rock/pop that most bands have to play at some point.

I would prefer to play all rock but we are just starting a band to have fun playing for other people songs that they would know.

Is there a better way to look up a list of songs like these without having to start another thread like I've done?

I appreciate any advice,
Smiledoc

There are like a million songs you could play.

Advice: ask your friends and/or listen to the radio. A bunch of strangers can recommend hundreds of songs that are popular and good to some people and you and your band might hate them.

That's something you're going to have to do yourselves, and with the help of YOUR friends.

Let me give you a little more info of who we would be playing for. The band I'm in are aged from 40 to 55. What I know is that here in Central Arkansas, with these mainly middle aged people, they like too here that type of music that they can get up there and dance to. And, most of these people are white americans.

So, most of the music would be those songs that were done back in the 70's and 80's.

We do want to play as much rock and roll music as we can because we are interested in playing solo's in the songs to show that we can actually play lead guitars and keyboards.

But, I definitely know what you saying in that it's hard for anyone to say these are the songs you need to learn.

Thanks,
Smiledoc

Thanks to all of you who gave me some advice. We already play a few of the songs you all recommended and I look forward to learning more. The ones that you all listed are definitely the ones I'll enjoy learning.
Thanks again,

Some Lynyrd Skynyrd stuff maybe, like Sweet Home Alabama, Simlple Man, Swamp Blues, and if you really want to show off your guitar skills Freebird.

Black Betty by Ram Jam (another guitar skill song)

Anything with Ted Nugent may fall well within anyone South of the Dixieline? :D

A few thoughts on mellower ones which are just plain fun on melody guitar...not necessarily all dance tunes.

Peaceful Easy Feeling
Lying Eyes
Third Rate Romance
