Which one do you prefer for blues? from the tones of bbking to SRV. Imo, Single coils usually have more snap and attack but humbuckers just have that mellow tone. what do you guys like better?

It's all relative to what you want your sound to sound like. Me personally i rock Lace Sensor Hot Golds. Alot of vintage sound but louder. and no noise. So i'm a single coil guy. But sometimes you want Humbucker. My advice is to get two Guitars A fender Strat and some other Humbucking guitar LP or semi hollow and you'll be set.

Personally when playing blues I like:

Strat with Single Coils

or

Les Paul with humbuckers

I like my Strat with single coils best. I also like my Gibson Les Paul with a P-90 in the neck and a humbucker in the bridge.

I like the middle position on my Telecaster for blues with a tad of amp breakup. For anything where I need a bit more "crunch" I'll naturally pick up my LP. Unfortunately LPs have a tendency to sound really dull if they're turned down; by its very nature the thing is a lead instrument. That's a factor as well...

m_l , great thread but this subject always gives me brain freeze . a good reason why i like the fender sound , stock out of the box is good , and augment with amp choices (bandmaster, showman, bassman, twin reverb, super reverb and all those fender amps) and stock you have a way to customize your blues songs. when you want to actually change out the stock pickups then my eyes start to glaze over for example: humbucker style active or passive? i'm stopping now , for the aformentioned reason , but , looking forward to what the other bros can tell us. this is a great place to learn about guitars, yes?

Single coil CS69's, switch in 1st postition plucking over the bridge pup. I like lots of quack in my blues! 8)

In general (for me and blues) my chosen weapon is a Telcaster equipped with high output single coils (Ducan Quarter Pounders).

I like all forms of blues to listen to. When I play, I'm more SRV than BB, and usually prefer some gritty single coils.

Whatever gets you through the need to play blues that day or night.

Sometimes the playing is so attention and focus-drawing, hearing comes in a distant second.

Wow that is a hard one to answer as I love the sound of STEVIE RAY tearing up his single coils but I love the creamy sound of GARY MOORE tearing up a LES PAUL just as much. Both great tones.I would give a slight edge to single coils

To Update you the Lace Sensor Hot Golds get that SRV sound, like Claptons but a lot more balls.
