Hi Just Another Bloke.

This one:

A better pic:

I believe it's called "The Red Dragon Tele"...

Wow. Does Page still own it?

Ah, a rosewood fretboard. That explains why Page's Tele sounded so "muffled" on all those records.

;)

Hahaha!

SlapChop, though we kicked it about for around seven pages I was thinking over it this morning and I believe we never really got to the core of your "intent" thing.

If ever there was an example of intent in action, I guess it would be the Stairway solo...

Cheers - C

I agree, Ceri... I don't think I communicated it very well. Seems the concept either resonates with an individual or it doesn't.

It resonated with me, but everything I could think of to say about it sounded particularly self-absorbed.

Still, I felt there was something interesting to get at that isn't quite the same as "feel", or "ear", or "it's in the fingers"...

Oh well. Thought provoking - well, I'm still thinking about it, anyhow.

Cheers man - C

Ceri - this is exactly why the Zen teachers said that it can't be communicated, only experienced. Guys who tried to much to explain their satori were often said to "stink of Zen." :)

I've already been insulted as "self-righteous" and "melodramatic" for simply saying I didn't understand a specific mindset. I think I'll leave this one alone. But I couldn't resist a shot at the "rose v. maple" thing. :D

It's interesting to me that it's only got 21 frets. I thought for sure that he'd want that high D note. :?

He stopped using on the 2nd record in the studio except for the solo on sth. it was painted by a friend without permision so he stopped using it for good. He got another tele "Brown Bomber" for the '80 tour over Europe and took the Zeppelin 1 tele's neck and put it on the "Brown Bomber"

He used the Brown Bomber on the 80 tour on All My Love and something else i think

It's is surprising just how many great players used a gibson and marshall amps live but used teles or strats and fender amps in the studio. hummm
Go Figure! Maybe Leo knew how to build a better guitar than Les

Hi A-A Ziggs: you've got a lot of interesting stuff to catch up on there, then.

Page used almost everything you can name at some point or other. Including Danelectros quite a bit - how un-custom shop is that?

And if you don't know about it you should read up on his session work before his headline career got going. In the '60s he was one of the most recorded guitarists around and has appeared on an amazing quantity of tracks, most of which you'd never associate with his playing style.

Pulling shapes on big stages with a Les Paul is very much only one aspect of that gentleman's life's work...

Cheers - C

Indeed. Did you know that it's Jimmy playing the twee little bent-note lead figures in Tom Jones's "It's Not Unusual?"

That's the scuttlebutt, anyway.
