I also like the smaller stores because there are usually not full of people playing Smoke on the Water, Sweet Child of Mine, or Iron Man.

I've used ebay a couple times, Harmony-Central a couple times, craigslist a few times, and classifieds on our local music scene website a few times. Plus a goodly number of pawn shop buys locally, and the occasional music store buy, for things on consignment or going-out-of-business sales, for example.

I bought a few from Fullers, I left Houston ten years ago for Phoenix and discovered Bizarre Guitar.
If you EVER get to Phoenix you HAVE to check that place out!!!

Bob Turner has owned it for 32 years, Mike has been the manager for most of that, and they are both blazing guitar players.

No commission sales baloney, all the guys have worked there for years.
It's NOT Guitar Center, so don't just grab something off the wall and bang it into five other guitars.....

If you want to play something, one of them will gladly take it down for you and plug you in to whatever you want - and answer any questions.

They beat GC prices every day without the hassle of haggling, and the new gear is REALLY NEW.

They have used gear that comes and goes, all very nice stuff.
I've bought a lot of gear from them for a reason....

Oh, I've bought a few guitars used on Ebay with pretty good luck too.

i def go to my local shop to get the feel of the guitar, or if there is a bigger selection i used to go to manny's or a gc/sa store.

then i would find that guitar on ebay and talk to the seller on the phone and really research the item.

most of my guitars were on ebay and they play great.

Local music stores, pawn shops and craigslist.
I will not buy a guitar that I have not held in my hands, inspected and played. There are just too many people out there that will be dishonest about condition, damage and if the guitar is stolen!!
I like to hear it, see it, play it, taste it, fondle it, smell it, you get the idea.

I only buy from:
Dave's Guitar Shop in La Crosse, Wisconsin & Elderly Instruments someplace in Michigan.

Dave's is like mecca for guitar enthusiasts, and luckily the website is just as good as the brick and mortar business. You'll pee a little while looking at the personal collection.
Elderly ain't bad, either.
