+1000. I bought an Ygnwie strat from them back in March and could not be happier. Was a bit concerned about buying a $2K guitar sight unseen but was totally satisfied with the purchase.

Also have bought from GC and a few local stores as well. Way back in the day bought from Musican's Friend.

Not the location in San Antonio Texas..is it?

My American Standard came from Guitarcenter . com after getting a great deal on it. It was nice actually having a new guitar, that hasn't been sitting in some store played by 12 year olds. It had that whole smell thing going for it, too.

The Mexican strat came from some mexican guy on craigslist.

The real House of Guitars - the one with a trademark on the name. The great great House of Guitars in Rochester NY.

It all depends on when I see something I like. I may buy it at a Guitar Center, Sam Ash, Local Guitar Store or I may buy it on Ebay. I have been lucky. I have bought new and used guitars and have never been burned.

I've bought guitars and amps from swap meets, guitar stores, pawn shops, online retailers, and Ebay.

It's all about where you find 'em.

i dont like using eBay personally, you set your sights on a guitar and then the next thing you know its racked up to a few thousand dollars, however i found this site sweetwater.com i haven't fully checked it out but it looks promising (i bought my strat off of guitarcenter.com)

These are 2 web sites that have inexpensive but nice guitars. The guitar fetish site has excellent replacement pickups and parts.

www.guitarfetish.com
www.rondomusic.com

Sweetwater is a great site to order from. They've been around for a long time, and they have a great system where they put the individual guitars up by serial. So you literally shop by serial number, getting to see the pics of the specific guitar, before you buy it! Also the one time I called their service rep (1999ish) they were great. I was 14 at the time asking about audio equipment and MIDI, and the guy was patient enough to explain things to me, knowing full well I couldn't afford it. haa..

Also they have a great gear guide..about 500 pages of instruments! Be sure to sign up for it!

Definitely order from them if you get the chance to.

Sweetwater also assigns you a personal representative, so every time you call, you'll speak to the same person, as long as they're in the building.

I've never bought a guitar online with the exception of my Gibson Les Paul BFG, which I bought used from a forum user on another site. All the rest are from local music stores and pawn shops.

Rondo Music is short on courtesy and brains in their customer service, answers to emails are slow and when they do arrive it's one or two words. But I did buy a short scale jazz bass from them for $100 and it is pretty sweet for what I paid.

Both of my current strats came from Jackson's down the road here in Sydney... one in 1992, the other 2009. If you go for the not-so-rare guitars they have you can get a good deal. Plus, you can trade in your old guitar from them and get the purchase price deducted from your new one -- although somehow I think that only works well if you're a collector rather than a player.

It's worth clicking the link just to drool over some beautiful instruments... remember those prices are in Aussie dollars, so deduct at least 30% for US equivalent; more like 50% for UK.

Amp and pedals all came from eBay this year... pretty crazy that it's worth my while to order something hand made and then delivered from the US rather than head down the road, but that's the global boutique village for you. Local distributors (if you can find any) for some pedals charge at least twice the money, and so far I've been lucky with my eBay dealings. I bought a Swart Atomic Boost pedal for $2 over the starting bid ($119.95) with a retail of $175... when the postage was calculated through eBay I thought it seemed a bit cheap from the US, and eventually emailed the seller to ask if he needed a few more dollars to cover costs. He got straight back to me and said that yes, he was out a couple of bucks but not to worry about it, and thanks for asking. The pedal arrived the next day (my birthday)... feel-good transaction all round. Heh.
