I named my red Fender mexican Squire model P-bass 'love' because when I got her she was in pretty bad shape. All of the local luthiers said she was a lost cause and to pull the plug ,so to speak, (thats what I get for being lazy for a moment) so I went to the manuals section here on Fenders website and in big bold letters it said "PLAY YOUR FENDER" (I'm exaggerating a bit) I then gave her a lot of love over the next few weeks as per the manuals recommendations and , well , love is back to love , what else can I say?!

I named someone elses one time.. Dude kept breaking it. He broke the neck twice. The second time he broke the neck literally in half in a fit of rage. First thing that came out of my mouth was, "dude, you have to stop killing Kenny."

So I named it after Kenny from South Park,

I have two acoustics that i call Taki and Jasmine because they are both Takamines. The electric is called backbreaker because it weighs about 10 pounds because it's solid mahogany and maple and will break your back to play it for long periods of time.

I have a terrible time naming my guitars. I also have the same problem naming my Remington 870 shotgun. Me and two of my friends bought this kind of shotgun and someone suggested that we name them an have the name carved on the shaft. I thought of Big Bertha after the Big a** german cannon in WW2 that needed 8 railroad tracks to move to the battlefields. But when I get my B-licensce I'm thinking of getting a big caliber hunting rifle and I would rather name that thing Big Bert... Wait this isn't the Remington forums...

Any way I think that I will have a terrible time finding names when I start having children

This thread had easily been done three times before, but since there are so many new folks around, I'll play along... :)

I named my first guitar Gladys. She's an '04 Squier Strat. My wife bought her for me for Valentine's Day. She has an aged white color that is yellowing a bit, a rosewood fretboard, and a CBS-style head-stock. She just looks kind of old and distiguished. So, I called her Gladys. My wife hates the name. So...

When my wife okay'ed me to buy the American Deluxe Stratocaster that I fell in love with a short four months after she got me Gladys, one of her conditions was that she got to name her. She called her Delilah. I believe it fits well. Delilah has an aged cherry bust finish with a dark rosewood fretboard. Absolutley beautiful! Delilah is a beautil name, me thinks.

Big Jay, your query...

"But I have a question for all you guys that give your guitars a female name....

Considering the phalic shape and nature of a Strat (watch Jimi Hendrix), does giving it a female name imply its some sort guitar homosexuality? Trans-gender identity crisis perhaps?"

The guitar in general is more female-body-shaped than male appendage, in this opinion. There's a great page in a Fender book which has a curvy nude female photo beside a couple of Strats. Her body curves are identical to the guitar's.

That said, a guitar with a guy name can be your Bro-mance, like going to a ball game. One with a female name can be your secret squeeze. One with a departed pet's name can be a chance to hold and play with them again.

Lighten up and be flexible....

Stigall, Delilah is an incredibly hot name for an Am Dlx, which is an incredibly hot guitar.

"Hon, I'm goin' to cuddle and fondle Delilah a while."

I don't usually name my guitars, by my latest - a Hofner Verythin - is named "Twiggy" by my wife... for obvious reasons.

(OK, maybe not obvious if you're under 30! Twiggy was a very famous model who was Very Thin)
