Just a thought. I was curious what everyone’s criteria was for naming a guitar, (As I am assuming most everyone does). I named one by color, Flo (guess the color) :) . ’06 MIM HSS

My first guitar I named Shannon. After my first  . ’08 Squier Affinity.

I am interested to hear your stories. Especially the ladies, as I don’t know any women guitarists who have named their axe.

I've only named by electric guitars.

I've named them after whatever feeling I got from them after having them for a week or so. And I use the Japanese romanized instead of English.

So we have,

hawk = Taka for my Squier '51
dream = Yume for my Squier Standard Strat
prize = Houbi for my Fender VGStrat that I won here!

I've also named my Miata, her name is Washu, after an Anime character

Its called BigJays Kickassocaster

Its know by this name across the land because BigJay assembled it and it definately KICKS $@!!!!!!!!!!!

I havent named my other guitars because they are just "other guitars".

But I have a question for all you guys that give your guitars a female name....

Considering the phalic shape and nature of a Strat (watch Jimi Hendrix), does giving it a female name imply its some sort guitar homosexuality? Trans-gender identity crisis perhaps?

My god....he didnt just say that did he? BWAH!!!!!

LOL, Sweet

I know it's a cliche, but I call my Telecaster "Black." My Les Paul is known as "Red" or "Big Red."

They're 'the black one with the maple neck, the red one with the pearloid guard, the one in pieces, that's as close as they get to names.

If a name sticks, it sticks, but some of my guitars aren't named.

Tank is my Peavey T-60, because it slammed into the car and car came out of it looking worse than the T-60.

I've named one of my two guitars. I have a glittery black Starcaster Strat by Fender and a transparent red Fender American Standard Telecaster. So, I named my Tele "Red Beauty" as soon as I opened the case for the first time. Ha, they are so pretty the first time you see 'em.

I have Guitar and Guitar and Guitar Ect.Ect. kind of like George Forman's kids being George and George Ect. Ect.

As I've said before--my Mustang, I call my Mustang, although me bass I call my Bass--not my EB-3 copy-but then I have one bass, and more than one electric.

SO I guess I call each guitar by what general type it is, then I narrow it down by brand and/or model.

I name them all (though 2 are currently un-named):
-Crook
-Damien 666
-Jager-Master
-Dirty Women
-Voodoo Action
-Chrome Kitty
-Black Cat
-Hessian
-Ashley
-Pearl
-13
-Jackalope
-Cherry Bomb
-Voodoo '52
-Salt
-Pepper
& 2 yet to be named...
The names come from different things. Some of my guitars have a sticker or two on them, and this sometimes plays into the naming. Sometimes it has to do with the finish. Sometimes its a result from the combination of both. Sometimes its a result from the combination of neither...

I thought about naming mine after my Grandkids. It would work for now because I have 8 guitars/basses, however Grandchild #9 is on the way. I would have to buy another guitar/bass.
