Always,
so your reply to my quite reasonable theory is that jim morrison sold more than the beatles and stones, played more gigs to more people. His music (which he never composed any of) is more widely accepted and has transcended the decades better. All on his own too, without those other jokers that couldnt get a bass player?

And you accuse me of trying to make you look stupid? You really should consider what you are responding to rather than make a knee jerk reaction.

I'm not trying to change anyones mind. Simply stating my opinion. I do own some doors material (some anthology 4 disc boxset) so its not like i'm speaking with no knowledge of the band. On the other hand i only own two beatles albums (white album and sgt peppers). I'm not the hugest fan of the beatles. I simply put the doors over beatles thing in context.

i could care less if the beatles or the
stones like most other people to have
sold more albums than the doors. jim
morrison work/poetry is tault in most colleges
here in the USA. dont see the beatles or stones.

Perhaps they should focus more on wordsworth or keats. Ever wonder why your nation is in such a state when you use a drug addicted alcoholic talentless halfwitt as a role model to school kids.

and heres somthing else to ponder on.
2 tears ago i took some colleage coures
in music (guitar) and besides the classical
guitarist being referd to guess who's name poped
up often? edward van halen's. the beatles or the stones
were never mentioned. so this tells me that these two
and i'm shure theres a few more very few have
had a huge impact on music.

ALWAYSASTRAT,as you stated you took two tears in college were you crying because of the ridicule and taunts thrown your way over your lack of an education in musical taste, and if you were taking a guitar course I would think Vanhalens name would be mentioned .Now if you also took a songwriting course and Lennon/McCartneys name was not mentioened I would believe it was one of those schools on the back of a matchbook,Please do me a favor and list a few artist you like so I dont think I am wasting my time debating a 15 year old.Next I am waiting to hear Kurt Cobain was the greatest guitar player ever from you.

Really can i have an example of that.
BTW you cant take credit for winning ww2. The german army lost because of a bad tactical decision to divide forces and march on russia. Russia as anyone who's looked at a bit of military history will know they have never lost on home turf. The terrain is just too hard for non natives to handle. Effectively the german forces were stretched to thin. The supply lines have to be stretched far too long for any effective ground force operation. a couple of hundred miles from the border of russia to moscow. Through freezing rough terrain with little in the way of food. Gonna kill off anyones will to fight. Even Ghengis Khan chose to strike a deal for passage rather than invade.

niki is correct: in US-made films, or happy, smiling GI's are given credit for winning the war through sheer goodwill. The truth is, the Russians won WWII, continuing to fight mercilessly along the Russian Front in the face of losses far beyond what the rest of Allies could even imagine.

To get back to the topic: In my opinion, the Doors could only have succeeded in the crazed atmosphere of the Sunset Strip in the 60s. The three instrumentalists were mediocre at best - for years in my old band, if I played something particularly lame or clumsy, my bass player (a huge Doors fan, BTW) would yell "Go, Robbie, go!", referencing Robbie Kreiger's lack of skill - and Morrison's "poetry"," despite his intellectual pretensions, was the sad diary of a sexually-confused drunk, the kind of guy who carries around a book of Nietzsche but never actually reads it. For all their posturing, The Doors had, finally, nothing to say.

But they DID, however, plug into the power of trance music. Listening to their extended jams, one hears a primal trance-inducing drone with a shaman as frontman. No wonder they called Morrison the Lizard King, cooked up all that Carlos Castenada-style mythology about him. Like a good rave, The Doors and the drugs created a tribal experience.

Does that translate to records? Not for me, it didn't. But if you dig it, then you're hearing it.
