Straycat,
I have no interest in stirring up the forum. I am dead serious, that is my opinion.
I don't appreciate being yelled at in all caps in return. I am not trying to convince or convert you or anyone else, nor argue with them. You have your opinion, I have mine - simply stated.

I like the solo work of George Harrison. I have no use for any of the rest of the Beatles, either singly or in combination.

Amen to The Doors being "over rated"
Morrisons ramblings just never did it for me.

Coupla cool songs sure and a decent band but nowhere near the epic-ness granted them.

It wasn't corny at the time. The Beatles were groundbreaking. See if anyone is listening to Slipknot 40 years from now.

Alwaysastrat,Yes you can go back to 63,64,65 and if you look at some lyrics I guess you can say they were corny .But the beatles matured on every album they recorded and every other band was 2 steps behind except the Stones who were one step SHE LOVES YOU -IWANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND / Giving way to A DAY IN THE LIFE -HAPPINES IS A WARM GUN and so on is maturity and the beatles led the way on all fronts.Hey I am one who believes everyone is entitlted to there own opinion but if someone is going to call the Beatles a garage band I would try to save them from embaressing themselves just say I dont care for them or you can make yourself look foolish .

Okay folks, I know it's an open forum and all but this thread is about whether or not you think the Doors are overrated. :D

Another point on beatles performance that when you have thousands of girls screaming at you, passing out, throwing their knickers at you and its only 1962 is hardly garage band like performance. You need to take them in context for the era. 62 was a vastly different year to 72, 82 or 92. Everything was new in pop music, it was a undiscovered country.

Theres also a good argument for the beatles being fundamental to the kick starting the re-birth of blues in america. They were the first band to cross the atlantic from england, the stones followed in their wake. Now ok the beatles themselves didnt play blues live but the stones did. Blues was all but dead in america circa 63, its due to the english blues boom and the british bands playing that stuff in america (which wouldnt of happend if the beatles hadnt broke the ice) that blues found popularity again in the usa.

The Doors were definitely one of the great bands we were lucky enough to grow up with. Compared with some of the manufactured, overprocessed bands of today, The Doors were REAL. Someone referred to their following as a cult. That might be, but the cult included pretty much every 16 year old that heard them. As I said, we had other great bands as well, (names in other posts, I believe). I don't get it. How can they be overrated? It's like going back to Beethoven and saying, "I don't think he had it quite right." (Can't believe I just compared The Doors to Beethoven!)

Neither can I.

I just do not see their talent or how they deserve to still be considered a valid band, especially when compared to their peers. Lets face it, more than sales or longevity comparison to other artists of the time is the only real way of valuing a artist or band. You cant compare james blunt to jam era paul weller. The music buying market was much bigger during the Jam's time. James blunt despite not selling as many singles as the Jam or performing as much will have made more money though.
Based on that they just dont stand up to my mind. santana, mama's n papa's, creedence, canned heat all had the drop on em. You dont even need to compare to the likes of hendrix, fleetwoodmac (outsold the beatles and the stones put together from 68-70    ), cream or the stones.

ALWAYSASTRAT,You are entitled to your musical opinion but the statements you are making are showing you really do not know much about music.Like I said it is one thing if you dont care for a band .But when you are calling two of the greatest bands ever (beatles-stones)garage bands you are going to look very foolish in any debate you are in .Do I listen to classical music NO. Do I hear the genius in those compositions of course I do.

There are a lot of over-rated bands out there, which doesn't make them bad, but The Doors are not what I consider over-rated. Led Zeppelin, AC/DC(my all time favorite band), KISS, Metallica, and any other band that has way too much merch out is over-rated IMO. Don't flame me for saying your favorite band is over-rated because I never said they weren't good.
