That I can agree with jeffo!

Yup. He was the only one with a clue on how to get things done. Consequently fell out with morrison regularly.

The Doors were the bomb......no one will approach that again.....one of a kind. That whole 60's period reminds me of The Impressionists in art where you had a pocket of artists that influenced everyone that followed, but most likely will never be duplicated.

It was interesting in that for many gigs as an opening act, Morrison would not even show up. So the show would still go on as a trio, with Manzarek singing all the lead vocals. There is some amazing historical footage of this. Thus, he was playing keyboards, bass, and singing for numerous live gigs.

Didn't like the Doors back then, still don't. Nothing special about their songwriting or musicianship in my opinion, but then that's all it is, my opinion.

I think it's interesting that this discussion has accepted as fact the supposition that The Doors, love them or hate them, were "influential."

I'm having a hard time thinking of any music from the decades following where one hears the influence of The Doors. Perhaps someone will enlighten me. But my current opinion is that The Doors were hermetic: sealed in a bell jar like a freak fetus in a sideshow, they were horrifying and fascinating to look at, and left a lasting impression, but their work didn't really influence much of anything.

I can think of a couple of 80's bands with frontmen who sounded like a lounge singer trying to make a rock album. Perhaps that's the influence? Am I hearing the Doors in something like Simple Minds?
