The Doves!

An alternative band from Manchester, the Doves have had a couple of #1 albums in the UK. They're virtually unknown, however, in the US. I like them a lot -- they have a sort of a lush, ethereal sound.

Just checked out the :30 samples of their new CD, Kingdom of Rust. Interesting stuff!

For those who are interested, here's links to a couple of their better songs...

Jeff Buckley. Definately very underrated. He's got an amazing voice both live and in studio. Although he released one album before dieing, he was amazing. His voice will send shivers up your spine. His album "Grace" is truly a work of art.

Speaking of amazing vocals... how about Queen. Another band that was huge in the UK but never captured the same level of success in the States. I was just watching Live Aid the other day, for the first time since it first aired, and they totally stole the show. Hands down the best performance of the entire concert.

It's interesting... The Doves are the only band that I've really liked, looked forward to maybe seeing live one day, seen live, been so bored by that I was running over scales in my head and thinking how my feet hurt and can now remember no distinguishing features from the show, and have subsequently never played any old tracks from or feel no desire to hear any new ones.

I dunno what kind of reverse-mojo they had going on that night, but they lost a few fans that I know of through sheer dullness.

Maybe I should give them another go... heh... I had honestly forgotten about them until I saw them mentioned here!

How about Zappa and the Mothers? One of the greatest (and most prolific) bands ever. I know they're in the RnR HOF, but the average listener probably doesn't even know if they have heard them. your wright Zappa is one of the best. im a huge fan and have been for years.

BTW go see Zappa plays Zappa if you get the chance.

Toad the Wet Sprocket. They only had one hit, but they were a solid all around band. Not only their studio playing, but live as well. Saw them play the H.O.R.D.E. fest back in 1995?
