I'd like to add Robin Zander to that long list...

people always forget Burton Cummings of the guess who, but i put him up in the freddie mercury kind of level.

+1 Burton is no slouch on piano, guitar and drums either!

I'd also say the guy from Toto and the guy
from Starship (Micky?)

You mean Micky Thomas. He's been around quite a while. Before Starship he sang the lead on Elvin Bishop's only real radio hit, "Fooled Around and Fell in Love".

Nobody has been able to copy Steven Tyler from Aerosmith so he's a favorite. Chris Daughtry has a great voice recorded and live. Scott Stapp, Bon Scott, Bo Bice live, Mac Powell from third day, The list could go on and on but the names i don't know. The Best Rock voice is Freddy Mercury.

In terms of only pure singing ability and nothing more, probably Mickey Thomas and Steve Perry are the two best rock singers ever. Don't get me wrong. I am not a fan of either of these guys or their music (especially Perry!), but these dudes had throats like none other. In terms of pure technical singing ability ... wow.

I think Chris Cornell is one of the best modern rock singers, not perhaps the greatest, but he does have a brilliant voice.

I always thought Jon Anderson of Yes had one of the most incredible voices in rock music, and he could pull it of on stage as well as in the studio.

Probably not rock in the sense that you guys are thinking, but how about Anthony Kiedis. (Red Hot Chili Peppers for those of you who don't really know about them)
