I also tried the Les Paul Studio in worn cherry, but that thing had rough frets. And it was $799. I decided on the SG Standard. It just felt better to me. I figured you never know when they'll go back up to $1699...

congrats!!!!

nice collection of guitars....

don't take this the wrong way....but i think your next purchase should be a new amp.

Oh, don't worry. I know what you mean. Back in the 70's I had a Sunn stack and a Vibro-Lux Reverb. My first wife made me sell the Sunn and the Fender was stolen after a gig. The Peavey TKO is my Bass amp. The one next to it is a Line 6 and the amp behind the Tele is a VOX VT-15. At this point, I'm only recording.

If I get in another band, the amp I buy will depend on what I do. If I'm the bassist, I'll get an Ampeg and if I'm on guitar, I'll get a Marshall.

Sorry for being off topic.

I do care about this topic, though. All my life, Fender's prices were always lower than most until the clone companies started came on the scene. I just don't understand how a big price jump during a recession is going to help them.

That's not what rock n' roll is about, is it?

You know what, I actually do like SGs. They are quite simple and sound nice. I used one once for a few hours in a friends. It sounded brilliant for slide (as i had imagined after seeing quite a few slide guitarists use it).
I also like Les Pauls, some of the creamy leads and crunchy chords you can get. My favourite is the Es-335 though, I would love one.
But my only beef with Gibson is, No maple necks .....
I love me some maple necks, so when it came time to buy a humbucking guitar, I got my 72 Thinline tele instead of an SG or cheap LP.

My next guitar is a gibby, might not be for a while though

I noticed that as well when i was at Guitar Center today, That the Studio had real rough frets so did the Traditional Standard pro Les paul so i left with the Standard SG since it felt the most comfortable to me.

It's the new Raw Power SG. I think it also comes in colors.

haha i was hoping somebody would prove me wrong. The LP version looks sweet like a goldtop one without P90s. Might have to start saving cash

To each his own. But, for people who had their eyes on one it's just odd to see an SG for less than an MIA Tele or Strat.
